Anyhow, Anne of Green Gables is a character that is often referred to as a good symbol of childhood innocence and the sweetness of youthful nature. It's the kind of thing one might call, heart warming, though a lot of it is very 'slice of life' for the time and place it is set in.
However, a lot of her later works take a more critical view of the society the author lived in. As well, her writing improves in her ability to weave description in with the rest of the stories instead of writing them as separate paragraphs in huge chunks. She also exhibits a lot more wit and subtle humor in her later works.
With so many people now wanting to read about sex, violence, and thrills, I sometimes fear that authors like L.M. Montgomery will slowly disappear from the shelves.
