Can we talk about this game?

Disclaimer: I'm pretty new to the MGS series. The only other one I've played to completion is MGS 1. I faintly remembering watching one of my brothers play Snake Eater. Other than that, I'm a fresh in the water to the franchise.

This beast has the best gameplay of any stealth action game, no any third person shooter I've ever played.

The Fulton system is fucking amazing, and every thing you can collect in the game has a purpose in the HUGE interconnecting systems the game has. All those mooks you would normally just gun down in other shooters can directly improve your motherbase, which in turn gives you more resources/ability to develop better weapons and armour.

Oh, flowers? Who cares, right? Not like you'll ever actually use them. Wrong. They're used for non-lethal weapons and certain medicinal drugs (like the phantom cigar and such). Gun emplacements and turrets can be used to defend your FOB. Vehicles can eventually be fultoned out and used on the battlefield, even tanks and armored vehicles. Remember those fucking Skulls that gave you so much trouble? You can eventually get a replica suit and can develop pills by fultioning the skulls that GIVE you their same abilities (creating mist, OP power armour, and stealth camo).

It's such a simple system (or at least it seems that way), that just gives way to so many awesome gameplay elements.

Admittedly, I like, and most other people find chapter 2 to be lacking in story, which only a handful of missions that actually matter. The rest are just rehases of past ones, which the gameplay is good enough that I don't mind too much, and they provide a more challenging experience. I just wish they were additional content on top of a satisfying conclusion to the game.

Ooh, I love MGS V!

I'll be able to discuss it in better detail later, when I'm not spending my time trying to catch a thousand of those fat Japanese hoop snakes.

Honestly, I didn't even realize that animal catching was even part of the game at all until I watched Bunnyhop's review of it. I only ever did the Jackal and Ibis sidequests, and D-Dog and maybe a couple of random animals I came face to face with. Oh, and the legendary bear. On the plus side , he said it was extremely annoying to get all the animals, so maybe I should be glad I ignored it.

Also, I have to express my rage at mission 45, which is the conclusion to Quiet's arc (though I won't spoil anything). You start off with this absolutely kickass cutscene, then she gives you this shitty starting Grom rocket launcher. There are two missions pretty early on in the game that have, in yellow text, "Recommended Weapon: Missle," Does this mission do that? Fucking nope. So you have this terrible grade 1 launcher, which isn't too bad with the starting waves of armored vehicles, especially since you can supply drop in the battle dress for protection. Just run around and shoot the fuckers.

BUT THEN! This fucking tank shows up at way back at the end of the map. Doesn't sound so bad, right? Well, his main cannon is basically a FUCKING sniper rifle that OHK's you even in an upgraded battle dress. Seriously, that son of a bitch managed to shoot through a fucking small ass window 200 meters away. Absolutely fucking terrible game design that almost made me quit the game completely.

Animal catching sidequests are kinda bullshit, tbh, I just hoard rare/cool ones in traps for the bragging rights and hook things up to balloons for the luls. If I ever complete a non-essential animal quest it'll probably end up being by accident.

How's it running for you?

I got the PS3 version, so I don't have to worry about whether it will run or not, but I did hear that the Fox engine is really good running on lower end computers, so that's a bonus, I guess.

Fox Engine's pretty well-known to run extremely smoothly on most ports, so no surprise there.

Though, I think the benchmark for MGSV would be an i3 with a gtx 750 ti to run smoothly at 60 fps at max settings.. You'd have to have a newer laptop (the past 2-3 years) to reach similar quality of gameplay.

My personal bit : worst story out of all the series (since it's just a retcon that might as well equate to filler content), but best gameplay if you can get rid of the reflex time for just plain old stealth.
