In the midst of the horror contest and the upcoming month of October I managed to find a hidden gem in the vast amounts of anime.
Death Parade is mainly about two random people who died each episode suddenly appearing in a bar that represents limbo as they are forced to play a game based on a roulette choosing that brings back memories of when they were alive and shows whether they deserve to be reincarnated or be sent to hell based on their morals during the game. It manages to add a depth of horror while giving humor on occasions to not make the rest of your day depressing.
It really nails character development in the span of 30 minutes they give each new character that arrives in limbo. With each having a reason on why they act the way they do, and even the evil characters deserving some sympathy in regards to their back story.
So if you're looking for a quick one season anime with little plot and emphasis on human morals and dignity in the face of death and intimidation then I would recommend giving at least one episode a shot. It was a fun experience.
