Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

Hi guys,

Gotten a few questions regarding the story. I unpublished it so I can cut and paste every single page into Word on my computer, as well as convert variables and code into workable non-computer writing. Also correcting errors I've compiled. Apologize for the inconvenience and any save games that disappeared.

Might take awhile, given my schedule, but it will come back up at some point.

Thanks,
madglee

Yikes, that's usually very time consuming. I'm surprised you didn't have a copy of the story lying around on your computer. It could've saved you some headache.

Usually when I'm printing my stories out to make a "little book" I take a simple approach of converting the stories into CYOA format so it's less confusing.

Example.

Page 1

Blah blah blah

Choice A- Go to 2
Choice B- Go to 3

Page 2

Blah blah blah

Choice A- Go to 4
Choice B- Go to 5
Choice C- Go to 6

Page 3

Blah blah blah

Choice A- Go to 7
Choice B- Go to 8

Page 4

Blah blah THE END

Page 5

Blah blah blah

Choice A- Go to 9
Choice B- Go to 10
Choice C- Go to 11
Choice D- Go back to 2

And so on...

Of course with this system you don't get the complete "randomized" numbers, (like say a choice that says "Go to 274" when you're on page 1) but this gets the job done and it still works well.

Yeah but Mommy has variables and scripts.

Yeah, with a bit more (read way more) foresight, I would've written it on my computer and then transferred it. Instead, I wrote everything on this site and now it's just stuck there, so I'm laboriously moving along.

Haha, hey!  Who deleted my post?... :P  Ok, yeah, it was kinda irrelevant, I'll give you guys that.

Anyway, good luck with that, Madglee.  That's gonna take quite a while, I'd imagine.

Yeouch! That would take a while. I imagine the result will be worth it though. It should be easier to read/play than Lone Wolf or Fighting Fantasy as there are no completely dice-oriented combats, just a few tests. I like the "tests" method, I've always felt that the combats in LW and FF kind of break suspension of disbelief. You may want to consider selling a few copies to friends if this sort of thing BTW.

Thanks, Rommel. I have some good ideas of how to convert the variables/scripting into text. May have to tone down and tweak a bit if I ever want to sell it, unless people like CYOAs like brutal violence and sex.

Who doesn't?

Hehe, I tend to agree, but I can imagine that most CYOA fanatics are probably demographic 10-18, and at the high end of that list (10-12) they don't have their own money to buy books. I imagine the mother glancing at certain sentences and saying, "No, you can't have that."

Since that story would never sell no matter what I did to it, I have no idea why I'm even considering those factors. Two chapters copied!

Oh, sorry Nate. I was making good progress of copying the whole thing but then school started and my laptop died almost the same day. I still have a backup on my desktop luckily. If only we could print or save our stories... :P

Thanks Nate, appreciate the support. With the 10 1s it got in a few days I wondered who was out to get me. :P

ten 1's! That's insane! Maybe we should have a thing where, if a story has been featured, it's not possible to rate it a one, after all, how could a story be worth a one, and yet be featured???

Meh, I still think low ratings aren't nearly as annoying as dumb ass comments. Its basically why I could care less whether or not people leave comments.

I'd rather have someone leave a 1 and not give a reason, rather than someone give say a 3 and then whine a lot in the comments section. (Even though those are funny sometimes)

I'd rather see the whining; at least then you can determine who's a complete moron. The faceless 1s on great stories around this site pisses me off to no end. You have no idea who to have killed or what motivated them to so erroneously rate something. Then you're forced to just "let it go" or have a seizure.
