I'm really getting sick of this comment for Dead End.

"It as good but it was a zombie game so...it wasn't good."

what the hell does that mean? i'm not saying everyone has to like it, but at least give valid reasons. Would you like it if you made a love story and came and gave it a bad rating simply because I don't like love stories?

Unless this means something else that i'm not seeing...

Maybe they mean the whole zombie thing, and the plotline altogether, has been done before, despite the differences in your game. Although I agree, they should be more specific when giving critique.

i think October is right. zombie stories are over done. Yet, some stories are still fairly good. But a fairly good zombie story isnt that impressive.

I think we had a similar debate with realprety about this kind of thing (albeit it was short and swift). Frankly there should be a rule in the article about commenting (we have one about that, right?) and it should say, "Just because you don't like the story's genre or setting, don't let your bias be the only grounds on your comment. If you don't like the writing, that's one thing. But simply because you don't like zombies stories, that doesn't mean that the story is automatically bad."

Something like that.

I think you could leave a legitimate comment to the effect of:

There are a lot of competent zombie stories on this site.  Your story was good, with solid writing but a typical zombie plot.  It wasn't quite great- there was nothing extraordinary or memorable to lift this particular story beyond the ranks of the hordes of other zombie stories.

That's not my specific comment to anything, just a generalization.

Just do some other gory and violent topic. War. Vampires. Anthrax. Espionage.

Anyway, Left 4 Dead was essentially a celebration of Zombie culture, and as I believe IGN said, zombies are the new Nazis. Left 4 Dead is just plain fun, as the World War II games were fun back when it wasn't getting old. Unfortunately, I think Zombie games are going to become just as old and tired as the WWII games.

What was the point of this thread?  Oh yeah.

some people wanna act like as long as it was nearly-pro-quality, it better get an 8.  Or at least a 7.  Other people act like it's a limited rank system:  8 is the best, so there can only be one 8 per category.

Zombies are kind of going through an overexposure cycle again. The last time was during the late 70s through the mid 80s. Then there wasn't really any zombie stuff for a long time until the Dawn of the Dead remake then they got popular again and now its getting harder and harder to weed out the good zombie stuff from the bad. I remember a time when you could find like only one comic book about zombies. Nowadays they got like five shelves dedicated to them. I like zombies as much as the next guy, but geez

Meanwhile with all the slasher movies being remade and more to come (Friday 13th, Nightmare Elm St., My Bloody Valentine, etc), I have no idea why they haven't made a good video game where you play a masked psycho killer yet. Seems like an obvious choice, since your main goal would be running around killing people like in a majority of video games, and they already have games like Fable 2 and Bioshock where your character can't "die" which are popular so that aspect could easily be incorporated as well. (Of course maybe you could still "lose" by letting the campers get away or something)

A tad bit off topic...although mildly arousing...in a sick on so many levels kind of way (i am NOT into zombie chicks...well, i guess it's not fair to say that im not into them, you never know what kind of crazy shit you'll do in the heat of the moment.

Actually at this year's IS story contest the topic is porn and I am writing some zombie sex in it. (Along with demon, mutant, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I can't mention here)

The deadline's December 29th. Not sure who else is entering since everyone drags their feet over there. I actually wasn't going to bother, but I kind of said I would submit something months before, so I'm bound to my twisted sense of honor.

But it's turning out okay now, I'm half way finished and confident that it'll be finished by the deadline.

I'm not sure, maybe people do it just to piss you off.
