Here's an excerpt. This made me laugh. I don't remember writing this, but it's been a few years. I examined the pizza slice, using my pharmacist trait and high intelligence.

Examining the slice of pizza more carefully, you see that the mushrooms are not normal mushrooms at all. In fact, they are of the genus Psilocybe. This species of fungi contains Psilocybin, a psychedelic alkaloid of the tryptamine family. Many people would call the fungi "shrooms." Ingesting the slice of pizza would undoubtedly lead to you hallucinating sometime in the near future.

It is impossible to tell how powerful the experience would be just by looking at the mushrooms.

Ah, sixth-sense, trait regarding the psilocybin pizza:

Your intuition tells you that eating the slice would be a very, very bad idea. Something is not quite right with the toppings, and you sense that eating them would probably cause your adventure to end prematurely. Disposing of the slice would be more fruitful.

Feeling through your pockets, your remember your can of Miller Lite. You only carry plastic, and besides, perhaps the guy might at least be able to get some alcohol in his withered frame. The epitome of health promotion, you pull the can out.

"This is all I have, guy." If his eyes weren't already irrevocably dulled from living on the streets, you're sure they would sparkle, judging from his gap-toothed grin.

"Thank you sir, thank you!" he exclaims and takes the can. You start to head inside the bar when the man calls out and hurries up to you. "Take this in return. Fair is fair!" He cackles to himself and runs off after shoving an empty glass bottle of Heineken into your hand.

Madglee - Is there any hope of another story built on the same trait/stat principles? Because, seriously - Mommy is on a par with, in some cases better than, Lone Wolf.

Thanks Rommel, that's an extraordinary compliment. I may do that, if I can recall how to script. I remember studying all that stuff and making it work, but I no longer remember how to do it. Dementia, I think. Have to re-learn. I may do another one with less "gaming" involved, instead relying on the user/reader to not cheat. There's a lot of code in there and it was making me laugh to play through it again, with little recollection of how the back-end worked, and see what happened.

Yeah, you could forgo scripting for the traits, stats or even the items and have the player remember them. It's much easier on you that way.

Does anyone know why Mommy isn't among the Top Rated Storygames despite an average rating of 8? The polished republished version is truly awesome by the way.

I thought it was...it's number one on advanced storygames on the home page and a random number under the Modern Adventure series. If I'm missing something, though, it's probably because certain jack-offs rated it a 1 - 12 times, to do just that. Unfortunately, no one would allow me to trace IPs so that I could send people over to wale on their legs, much like Charlie Murphy did to Rick James.
