Crab Arena!

I had to take a break from my Epic Zombie adventure, so I threw together Crab Arena to practice Scripting. I actually built it once before, but didn’t like how it looked, so I scrapped all but the opening page. This latest version took me about two weeks to create and is probably one of the Script-Heaviest stories on the site (each Fight Link in it has over 800 lines of script – phew! – thank goodness for cut & paste)!

I took quite a bit of time playtesting as many combinations as I could and have worked out quite a few bugs, but with so complex Scripting, there’s probably a good chance I missed something. Please let me know here or by PM, if you find something in it that doesn’t seem to be working right – Thanks!

Now to get back to working on the brain-munching goodness that is zombies!

JMgskills suggested having some sports announcer-like commentary to add the Crab Arena game. I think this has some potential and would consider it, if I could come up with at least 100 phases that I could have appear randomly with the summary of the action each round.

Something like:

“Ouch, that’s going to leave a mark!”
“He’s looking pretty good out there bob.”
“I remember this one crab in Jersey, boy he beat that thing to a pulp!”
“What a blow!”
“He’s got him on the ropes!”
“I haven't seen a beatin' like that since somebody stuck a banana in my pants and turned a monkey loose”
“This fight brought to you by Chang’s Seafood Emporium.”
“It’s a left, and a right, and another left!”
“This crab may not be pretty, but he’s mean!”
“He’s just bitten off his opponent’s ear folks!”
“Oh the humanity!”

Feel free to add any commentary sugestions =)

On strategy:

If you read the first three opponents’ intros, they will show you what elements they lean toward. Plan your counter elements accordingly for a slight advantage. In later battles with the fourth and fifth opponents who use random elements, use the power-ups to force them into using the element of your choice.

I spotted a small bug, where you can max out your stun chance for the boxer crab, but still spend power points trying to increase it. I'll fix it here right now...

I see someone has a saved game of it. I'll wait and do the update later this evening or tomorrow, rather than kill someone's save.

Liked the game! I noticed an error with the pimp slap bonus. They used air, as commanded, for the first two rounds, but they often used water on the third.

Thanks, for the catch - I'll look into it when I get a chance to update it!

Same with me but the with the one that only lets you use fire. Other than that it's a great game.

I tried to duplicate the problem, but couldn't.

It must only appear under a certain combination of moves. Did it happen during the normal game or Survival Mode or both? If the normal game, was it during the 5 round battle or 3 (I presume 3 rounds from your posts). Did it occur when using just Pimp Slap or Foot Stomp? Or using that after a Groin Kick? Any details you can give will help me track down the cause....

It could also be only with a certain crab type you are playing - hermit, fiddler, or boxer...

Aha! I see it's happening with the boxer crab. I'll try to zero in on it more tomorrow.

I fixed this error, thanks again for pointing it out. I also found and fixed one where you always used Claw Hammer vs. the Lobster King on the 4th and 5th round, regardless of what you actually selected.

Additionally, I noticed that the Boxer's Stun feature is slightly flawed (percentile wise) after the second round, but not bad enough that it doesn’t work. or needs new scripting.

It would be cool if you could switch crabs after each battle. Or you could buy better ones at the Power Point Store...

The revisions required to change crabs after each battle would be daunting, but having special crabs that you could choose in survival mode could be do-able. I even though about having other enemies to fight as well – like Jelly Fish, Sharks, and so forth...
