Death Poems

There's samurai in one of my stories, and some of them are going to die in ways they totally see coming, so naturaoly, they have to give their last operatic observation on the matter. But I'm not an expert on this kind of thing, I only know the stylistic stuff. So I'd really like to get it right, since this is something that real dead people do, and has serious emotional consequences IRL... Is it offensive to write fictional death poems? Quora and Yahoo weren't available.

I'm really not understanding why this would be considered offensive.

I've been suffering from poem-guilt ever since I parodied the Edmund Fitzgerald, which probably is the Wisconsin version of replacing the lyrics of the Turandot song that makes people cry with dead baby jokes. Now I gotta make sure my death-related poetry checks out with audiences.

I'm not seeing how it would be offensive. Historical fiction is a thing, it's always dealt with serious emotional stuff that happened to real people.

Did a quick google for examples and this is a neat site, I'll have to save it for browsing later. http://www.samurai-archives.com/deathq.html
