You are Junius Vitellius Calvinus, one of the 5 military tribunes attached to Legio V Alaudae under command of Lucius Nonius Asprenas. During the summer, you have been temporarily stationed at the castra at Haltern in Germania Inferior. It is september 9 A.D. and you are about to return to your legionary base at Mogontiacum (Mainz) when news arrives of the destruction of the XVIIth, XVIIIth and XIXth legion under Varus in the Teutoburger Forest. A few days earlier your superior General Lucius Asprenas left for Mainz with most of the troops, leaving you in command of the remaining troops at Haltern. Will you be able to lead them back to their winterquarters or will you, surrounded by the rebel German tribes, be utterly destroyed?
