Anybody seen it? I thought it was the scariest movie I've seen. But I haven't seen many very scary movies.

Haven't seen it - is it gory? I don't mean zombie movies gory, that's fun, but like Hostel/torture people gory? I don't find gory = scary...if you see what I mean.

i very much agree with madglee here. (even though its still a fatguy in a box.)

i dont watch 'horror' anymore because it focusses on the gross factor more than anything these days. i havent seen the eye for that very standard that i have set for myself.

Yeah I've never been into gross stuff... I like the suspense and thriller type films.

Are we talking the original, or the Jessica Alba remake?

I saw the original. Pretty good.

Re: gore/ torture porn:  One of the scariest movies I ever saw was The Ring, and that's PG-13.  IMO, "scary" and "gory" are not anywhere near the same thing.

Total agreement

but they can be mixed for effect.

I thought the saw movies were effin retarted.

I thought the Ring was terrifying, too - I went to it for my birthday and my mom, aunt, and brother all thought it was stupid. Meanwhile, I actually had weird nightmares for like a week.

The Eye didn't look too impressive, so I skipped that one.

Horror movies haven't scared me since elementary school, but since I pretty much grew up on them it's hardly surprising.

I thought Hostel sucked. Only the last third of it was alright and by then I was like is that it? Up until the last third of it was just tame softcore porn. Not that there's anything specifically wrong with that, but I went in to see a horror movie so I was getting disappointed when I wasn't seeing human suffering on the grand scale that the advertisements promised.
And the only part I really thought stood out wasn't even any of the killing, it was the hyper businessman excitedly going on about killing someone and how much a rush he got from it. (That would probably qualify as the "scarier" bit rather than the torture porn stuff)

Plus the protagonist was completely unlikable, glad he got killed in the 2nd movie.

Hostel 2 was actually better since they dwelled more on the killer organization and the people that indulged in it. Which gave a little more background on the psychos. They were also more consistant with the killings and had a better protagonist.

The Saw series is one of those that's "meh". I didn't really like the first one and just thought of it as a lame version of Seven. The sequels sort of make it a little better since they start delving more into Jigsaw's mind and motives etc. Still, I think they should've just ended it at 3. Jigsaw isn't some supernnatural killer, and it's getting into the ridiculous with the series continuing AFTER he's dead. They pulled it off barely with 4, but I'm wondering how the hell they're going to do 5 & 6 without it getting excessively stupid.

One thing I probably can't tolerate in horror movies is crappy villians. Seriously "Scream" and "I know what you did..." had to be some of the most unimpressive and boring killers ever.

Yeah at least "Saw" had a cool villain.

I thought When A Stranger Calls was a pretty lame remake, but it had some definately cool aspects.

Disturbia was fun but not particularly scary.

I didn't think the Ring was scary at all. And the Jessica Alba the Eye. Never seen any of the saw movies or Hostel. Disturbia one of my favorites. and When a stranger calls was pretty good.

Has anybody seen One Missed Call? thats one of my favorites also. And anybody seen the Strangers. I haven't seen it yet but my mom went and saw it and she said it was the scariest movie ever. But she also said Disturbia was scary.

Chakushin Ari kicks ass.  The remake sucked.
