I saw her laughing with her friends, flirting with boys, and slowly drifting farther away from me. One of her friends asked me if I was okay, if I still loved her. I smiled and gazed toward the many shadows of people eating lunch in the courtyard before replying.

“It didn't just hurt, it was a sickening, stomach clenching feeling that racked your body from head to toe. She broke me, leaving me with only memories of the feel of her skin. It was uncontrollable, I couldn't sleep, only lay awake in bed for hours thinking about what we had, where it wrong, why it had to happen. For her, it was nothing, just a minor inconvenience. The things that I've felt, could break someone in two, force them onto their knees and have them crying through the night. I'm no exception, I've spent weeks doing just that. I've become a shriveled mess of a person.”

I turned away as she looked at me, her mouth slightly open in suprise.

“You love her that much?”

I faced her again, holding her gaze as long as I could stand it.

“Always.”
