It is a state of unfinished. Usually the site will be open but the features improve quickly.

Hey, who knows, the site might just be getting new features.

There is a point when they take it off. They still improve. For example Runescape improves all the time but isn't in beta mode. The line isn't really clear is it.

This is a question for Alex. No reason to delete this. Also, you don't need to delete posts in the general forum because those can talk about anything.

a beta usually means you have just created it and are still running tests. You are not done your MAIN goals/features of the site. For example, a beta of this site could be, only have pages and links in the editor, all other options are still on the drawing board so to speak.

So its not beta.  Its alpha!

Fixed, single-installation systems (such as MyAdventureGame.com) do not quite operate like that. "Beta" and "Alpha" really only apply to distributable software, things that are downloadable or put on CD.

The closest thing single-installation systems would have to that would be "testing" environments, which you have defientely seen (test.mag.com). But that really isn't beta though.

hehehhe, Alpha really means something for this???

Sure, sure. There is no "official" meanings, but traditionally, "alpha" is a test to show off and test functionality/ideas. Like, if you're making a shooter game, the Alpoha version would test out the gameplay, controls, etc.  Once that's worked out, they will release a beta version, which is really there just to test for bugs.
