I'm trying to add an image to a page but no matter what I try, it gets erased as soon as you go away from the editor, including switching the source on and off. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using the image uploaded from My Stuff so it should be valid.

The rich text editor likes to remove the HTML for images. Short of turning it off completely, you can always add the picture at the very end. As long as you don't go to edit the page again, the image should remain unmolested.
