We have global link, global page, but we don't have global item. We should. 

I can't think of any problems with this, but what is your rationale, exactly?

If a variable is a certain number, I want to set a different variable to another number by using any items.

He means that there should be a script that is executed any time any item is used.

Exactly. Which would be a drag. If you have like 1000 items. 

I can see the need there.

Of course, if you have 1000 items, I think you've got some other issues... :)

I have around 30-40. But it's still a drag.
