Template minigames

ok, heres the idea, some people want to add a minigame to their site but dont want to get bogged down with making a poker game with 52 cards, or a dominoes game with all the dominoes and such. therefore, what would be nice if we could have template games already on the site that any one can link to in their game and have the minigame there without any work on their own. they could spend all their time on their story and plot without spending weeks working out a small minigame.

minigames could include but not limited to:

poker,checkers,chess,dominoes,darts,keno,blackjack,slots,horse racing.

all the possibilities makes this a must. lol

I like this idea, but I am strongly against it.  That sounds confusing, let me explain.

If were going to have preset parts to a game wemight as well have preset everythings.  Stories, books, items (preloaded with pictures), character descriptions, etc.  Also lets say you play a minigame and then its on the next game you play, and the next, and teh next.  Through no fault of the authors, your rating is going to slide down just because you arent going to engoy the game as well.

Another aspect is as follows:

Cryptode has its own mimigames and they won it the contest!!!  If they had been preset then Solostrike would possibly not have won.  Solo is a AA specialest. (not alcoholds annonymous)(Afdvanced Editor). It woukd practically put him out of business.

Its kinda like if you gave everyone bread, then the bakeries would go under.

Also, these preset minigames can be part of a story (mattias -- in the village trying to get Adrian on your team) and can be incrediably fun to write.

Now let me guess what your gooing to say:

Solo (anyone) could still write their own minigames!  They dont need to use the pesets:

True, True but if the presets are written in code by Alex then their probably going to be phenomenal! Is that something matchable by the AA editor?  Without spending an unreasonable amount of time?

So solo might make his minigames bur wouldn't he get a lower rating? He might just use these presets.  Thus taking the value from his game.

It does sound like an awesome idea  -- but I can't ignore JJJ's (well thought out) points.

Here's another point I'll add -- the new version of the Advanced Editor will allow for mini-games to be more innovative and easier to create. Heck, the current editor allows for some pretty neat mini-games as it is. Perahps, instead of programming templates, we could just have articles that tell authors how to create a particular type of minigame?

Or some template scripts that can help an author build a minigame (when we can use scripting that is).  Also the Tower should have some interesting minigames in it.  Mayeb they could be called puzles/activities.  I'm not sure,
