Deleting in the forum

I didn't see this suggested yet (if it is, please regard this topic).

In the forums (this kind of goes with being able to edit as well). If you don't like a post you made, or you decided to change where the post starts at (so it's easier to read) I think it would be good to be able to delete your own posts. What do you think?

PM me in regards to this. I'll delete it for you. I'd personally like the edit button at this time for forums. Mabey users that get 1000 EXP get the ability to delete there own posts as long as there is no reply? Wouldn't that be a good idea?

Well, I got the idea for it from other forum boards that let you delete your "latest" post if you didn't want it for any reason.

ya, ive seen another forum have that too leon...

They also had it where it could only be deleted within a day (24 hours starting at whatever time it was, I believe).

Hava, there's an edit button?

No, not yet.  It's accepted I believe though.  I want it done soon.  Than, I can edit my posts for better clarity.

Mmm. Because there's some times when you've got something to say, but as soon as you've clicked on the post button, you have something else to say and you have to make a second or third post. If we can edit posts, it might keep spam down too.

Well not spam, but three posts by the same person simultaneously rather than one long one. See, I had to write twice then (seriously, that wasn't deliberate).

Yah, but this is deleting in the forums so technically, you have spam there.  lol.  It should show the following message at the bottom if it is edited though.

Edited [Number Times] time(s) by [User].  Last edit was on [Last edit date and time]

Edited 1 time(s) by Havvy.  Last edit was on March 5th 2000 at 00:01.

Yeah, but we don't have an edit option. Maybe we should be able to do that?

I would go for at least an edit. What's wrong with being able to delete your latest post when you decided you didn't need it or want it though. I use it all the time on dgemu.com.

the main problem with deleting posts is simple. all the following posts will also get deleted. for instance:

message 1.dfogoergjeor
                        2.sdfjlwouoetekh
                                 3.dofgueorhgkdfgh

deleting message 2 will also delete #3 from whoever it comes from.

Wow, complicated..

How does the forum work anyway? The post thing, I mean.

Oh, sorry. Then never mind, this is a no go. It was worth a shot. Okay, then an edit will do.

Technically, this is still feasible.  All that needs to be done, is that it checks for any posts under it in the hierarchy.  If so, bump them up one spot.  This forum, works much like markup-languages in the way things are nested.  At least, that's what it looks like.

Oh, so replying to earlier posts when you need to is actually worthwhile to keep them there for later. This forum's smarter than I thought. I'm still with the editing though. We shouldn't be able to delete though.

Well, today, it deletes everything down.  I'd personally like for moderation purposes, an ability to delete single posts and make the posts go up.  Thats currently not feasible, and that would be the best for moderators to get rid of single posts filled with spam (and shrink spam from other posts).

NAte makes a good point --- deleting a post will delete all of its children. not sure i like that idea for non-moderators.

Perhaps the ability to delete post if ithas no replies and is less than 48 hours old?

I like the Idea of being able to delete out "own" posts not other peoples. I have had some trouble with posts being moved un necessarily, I think the moderators should not be able to just move your post, there was a reason the person put it there, a simple... maybe you should have put it here? do you want me to move it, would be nice.
I dont think non-moderators should be able to just remove posts, but I would like to remove my own from time to time.

That's what we mean, hiddendragon. If you could delete other people's posts, then some random could come on the site and ruin the forums.

Deleting in the forum

Yes, and nobody wants that.

The non moderators should be able to delete there posts if they haven't been posted on and is not older than 48 hours.  That's the summary.

Maybe it should be possible to delete a post, without deleting the replys to that post? often the replys relate not to the message before, but a few before. can that be done? or doesnt it work like that?
