Simple, you start out as a lazy teenager who has 1984 as summer reading, and then at some point you read it and it opens your eyes to the Illuminati, the New World Order and a whole lotta conspiracy theories. Any ideas for how to progress? I haven't been on this site in years lol

I was talking to another user who wanted to do something like this, I'd suggest doing a whole shitload of research before beginning, it's a good idea. However, your question is far too broad, what do you mean on ideas related to how to progress? Be more specific.

I've done tons of research, and so far I'm trying to make it a satire about how american teenagers will believe anything that they read. By progressing, I mean, storywise. I already have down that he's gonna read 1984 and get all paranoid about the government. Is that enough for me to let nature take its course, or do I need more than that? You seem experienced at these storygames

I'd start by reading Ground Zero by Endmaster and Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight by madglee. That will give you a basis for how to go about creating an excellent storygame. I definitely think you should flesh out two or three story paths at the minimum. Maybe the character ends up working for the government after he's coerced and crushing a freedom movement, maybe he joins an anarchist movement to overthrow the government, etc, etc. Once you've got those fleshed out, decide how the character can enter these paths. A flow chart can be supremely useful.

I'm gonna add variables to get different views on what the government is doing, depending on what drugs the guy does / if he gets a girl under the covers / what time he turns on the TV and what show is on (:

1984 has nothing to do with conspiracy theories, just totalitarian governments.

(Bonus irony points because Orwell was a socialist)

Incidentally, I'd have the teenager in question join the libertarians, militia movement or tax protestors, possibly reading the works of Ayn Rand and possibly Heinlein from his more right-wing days.

And no matter what you write on this, you're going to offend someone, so be as over the top as you want.

(sorry for triple posting)

Finally, just want to point out that anarchists and libertarians disagree massively, and in america the libertarians are far more powerful. With a lot of this conspiracy theory stuff directed against the left, I'd be very surprised if the guy joins the anarchists.

Disagree, libertarianism and anarchism share so many traits (not the important ones) that a highschool student could easily fail to differentiate between the two. IE: Join the more extreme group as a counterbalance for fascism. As in, go over the top.

And here's some little amusing diagrams of some of the various ideologies.

It still shines the light on what the government may be doing to prepare for totalitarianism, opening the eyes of our gullible little friend.
I've read Anthem and I'm getting into Atlas Shrugged. Ayn Rand is pretty funny.

After 1984, he should proceed to subscribe to Prisonplanet and Infowars.

I'm still working on what happens if he procrasturbates again, goes to a show with his friends, and fails the summer reading assignment. lol any band name suggestions for post-hardcore and straight edge acts?

so yeah, weird off-topic stuff like that can most definitely find its way into the story. i cant think of every little thing lol

You guys are G. haha  Whenever I thought of an answer to a question, one of you responded either as I would, or better. haha

That means I've got nothing to say now, haha.  Maybe, after reading 1984, he catches on the news that they're adding new traffic light cameras and he thinks they're there to spy on the public (BB is watching), or something.  Or maybe his Government teacher tells the class that we're sending even more troops to the middle-east, but for the purpose of "restoring order," and he thinks he's trying to brainwash the class with "War is Peace."

The character could potentially do some more dystopian reading, and expand his paranoia, be it warranted or unwarranted.

Just some ideas.  G'luck
