The undead archetype

So I was thinking, the whole undead sexy/creepy debate has been discussed on a forum not intended for that at all, so I thought I would start one here. I personally thing that a up-and-coming archetype for the undead is sexy. Some may debate that Twilight and all of it's necrophiliac offspring have already set this particular archetype in full swing, but I don't think it will start there. I think it will eventually evolve to where other undead forms are seen as sexy, love-seeking heroes as well. Soon we will all see ghosts wearing thongs, loner ghouls with a bad side, and horny zombies. If you have any thoughts on this theory, have your own, or simply think that the undead are better off sexy, reclused, loners rather than rotting, shambling, moaning killing machines, feel free to voice your opinion!

As said before, they are horror figures and should stay that way.

They've done the ghost thing a few times already. One example is in the movie "Ghost".

Zombies have been done too several times, though making the zombie "sexy" is pretty damn difficult. The only serious attempt that I can think of was Return of the Living Dead 3 which had a whole romance going on.

Usually if you've got zombies and sex mixed together though, it's purely for a shock or gross out factor, like a movie called "Porno Holocaust" where this zombie was going around raping women to death. Or more recently there was Haeckel's Tale where this witch ended up keeping all her male victims around as rotting zombie lovers.

Have to say I like my vampires Creepy, shapshifting, stake and garlic fearing, and Twisted evil sadistic minds. Twilight is blasphemy and should be burned without regrade or remorse.

There are different portrayals throughout pop culture. The vampires in Oblivion aren't the same as the regular portrayal, Twilight just had a different portrayal as well. I mean shit, even Sesame Street has its' own portrayal. SIX! SIX BATS!

I'm more in the camp that if there is a genuine mutual romance going on with any sort of undead, it should be from a somewhat perverse individual or pursued by at least a slightly unhinged mindset (not necessarily completely crazy, but obviously something isn't quite "right" with them). I'm not counting any sort of mind control done by a vampire (or whatever) on a human since that's technically unconsensual and the undead monster is just being predatory as usual.

I mean if you think about it, you've got a living being desiring to have sex with and even love something not living. Vampires are only accepted as being "sexy" due to the fact that they're usually shown as more human like.

The fact still remains though, vampire aren't human and are more powerful as a general rule. And sure maybe they can feel something like emotions towards the human, but really it's similar to a relationship between a master and a favorite pet. Even if the vampire goes the whole route and turns the human into another vampire, the lover is still going to be weaker and now even more under direct control since the one who usually gives "the gift" has a lot of sway over how their new creation is supposed to behave.

But hey, some people like that Submissive/Domination relationship.

Anyone wanting to see an interesting twist on the "Twilight" stuff that's all the rage nowadays though should watch Deadgirl. To me it captured more of that twisted human mindset that would most likely go along with wanting to have sex with something obviously not alive.

I'm thinking the dead girl was more like a ghoul rather than a vampire though in that movie. They never really specify.

Not love.

Typical desire for necrophilia is lack of response from the partner.

True, but there's also the desire to not be "judged" which would still apply if you were having sex with most undead.

With something like a vampire they really aren't in any position to judge whether you really suck at sex or not since they shouldn't have any sort of sensation down there. They can go through the motions and they may even have vast experience, but they can't really feel like a living creature does. They're probably "getting off" more on the idea of a warm body being near them and all that delicious blood flowing inside it rather than actual sex. Though again, I'd still have to think a human going for a vampire is doing it more for the Sub/Dom fetish rather than a necrophiliac one.

And with something like a zombie, well...the zombie isn't going to judge your sexual prowess at all and assuming you can keep it from eating your brains during the act, you're still a necrophiliac even if the corpse is still moving around.

Stephen King's opinion:

Here’s what vampires shouldn’t be: pallid detectives who drink Bloody Marys and only work at night; lovelorn southern gentlemen; anorexic teenage girls; boy-toys with big dewy eyes.
What should they be?
Killers, honey. Stone killers who never get enough of that tasty Type-A.

Standing ovation. I love Stephen king's work and that quote just proves how awesome he is.

This puts it in better words than I could ever attempt at.

I hope to god it's before Twilight that there were sexy vampires. Look at everything from Vampire: The masquerade (from the 90s), even before the video game to Ann Rice books. Shit, even Bram Stoker has some sex appeal although he's obviously a murderous creature. And Fallout 1 and 2 has some great ghoul sex going on.

I love the King quote, though, and I'd tend to agree, although I can see how during eternity you'd simply get bored with any particular archetype and just start putting on masks to stay sane.
