I read a lot a lot of Poe biographies and I don't think a single one claimed he wasn't an alcoholic. I know his nursemaid fed whiskey soaked bread when he was a baby, but that doesn't mean he was an alcoholic, just a victim of a fairly common practice that we look down upon. I mean when you look at all he had to go through in his life it's hard to imagine not being an alcoholic. I'm pretty sure like most artists of his time he partook in drinking absinthe, like van Gogh and all the rest. By the way this may seem a little off topic but it's worth saying, van Gogh didn't cut off his own ear. It was his friend that he was living with, they got in a fight and he sliced off his ear. The cutting off his own ear thing was a story they made up to the cops so his friend wouldn't have to go to jail. Which really makes you wonder what van Gogh said the he basically admitted to deserving his ear chopped off.

Not that I would really call Hollywood robots the most purposeful thing they could work on.

That wasn't the verdict. Not even a little bit. The verdict was the robots could happen, but not like bradhal suggested. Why I even think we could see robots that advanced in our lifetimes.

Oh yeah I argued the same thing, in a lot posts. And Asimov's laws were purposely written to be flawed.

The computer did something that essentially against her programing it's a glitch. Either way it's too random and unlikely an event to consider it a possibility, too many variables.

No, it was the just the one central computer that had that idea, and she enforced it by breaking it so she became self contradictory and a paradox, which would probably really screw up a computer. And once that computer was destroyed the robots went back to normal. The computer was given more knowledge of the world than it should have. Essentially a computer.

It's true we can't know what exactly will happen, but we can make a few educated predictions based upon what has happened throughout history and what we know of how people. The IRobot story is mostly based on essentially a computer glitch, it's more likely that such a major glitch would not go unchecked and the movie seems an unreliable source. Like how the large hadron collider could create a blackhole and destroy Earth, but most likely won't. As far as the Robo-Communist Utopia, well we've gone over a couple reasons why that won't work and a few issues with the idea of having robots like imagined by Asimov, so that most likely won't happen either.

Isaac Asimov wrote IRobot.
