utter trash in New Storygames, and questions

First off, could someone refresh my memory on how long it takes a game rated one to get removed?

Whatever it is, given the low effort, borderline trollish garbage the site has been getting lately, I can't be the only one thinking it's not fast enough. Do stories like this or those three Mario ones that got posted earlier really need a certain amount of days and votes before it's clear they're not the kind of things we as a community want to see cluttering up the New Storygame page?

It's frankly embarrassing thinking of those as one of the first things people new to the site might see. If the mods wanted to take it upon themselves, I know I for one would be very happy if they just removed that kind of blatantly awful shit straight out instead of letting it fester there with the real attempts.

I think the system works fine the way it is. Firstly because the mods can't be around 24/7 to delete every trolly game as soon as it's posted and second, the game needs a certain amount of time and votes before it gets deleted, otherwise a really good game could be posted, some idiot could come and rate it a 1, and then it'd just disappear straight away before anybody else had the chance to read it. Most of the really bad games get deleted the same day that they're posted and that's fast enough for me. ^_^

I'm not even talking about the rating system here, though I'm curious what the actual formula for a story being removed is.

What I'm referring to are stories that are so obviously not 'stories' or even a good faith attempt at one (the one I linked being a good example, which aside from everything else was a pain to even rate because of all the broken links making it difficult to find the ending...) where it's obvious they'll be deleted anyway.

And I never said anything about the mods needing to be around 24/7, just that if they saw a story like that, I'd have no objection to them removing it immediately and I doubt anyone else would, either.

See here for an article on the minimum site standards for storygames. Any storygame that fits the criteria that aren't the first, second or eighth bullent point could be deleted straight away. The example you gave in the OP fits the fourth bullet point, so I've reported it to the mods here.

Thanks, I knew that was all written down somewhere, but I'd been looking for a thread.

But the Draw My Attention thread isn't for suggestions for the removal of new stories anymore, I thought. If there's already a way for them to be removed outright that's great though, I'd been under the impression it all depended on waiting for the ratings.

I wasn't aware about the removal of storygames thing. Thanks.

That game particularly annoyed me since it came out mere moments after Steve posted his new story, which has a ton of work put into it. Thankfully, shadow the hedge... wolf won't be around long.

The site standards do seem to work well, as far as getting rid of the biggest steaming piles of refuse goes. What I think could be fixed is how we get 2-5 stories (worthy of a 1 or a 2) from the same author within a few days of joining the site. I"m not sure how much effort it would take to implement a time lapse for new members between creating an account, posting a first game and then posting a second game. Sort of like a probationary period. This could actually be a service to the writers that makes such stories, as it will give them more time to reflect on what the heck they're doing... or give them time to get bored and leave if they don't want to seriously contribute or improve.

The only time limitation in place is the 90 minute one between starting and publishing a story. Something like a 72 hour cool down period between publishing one story and publishing another would be very welcome. Between the Mario stories by one member last night and the 'Hug House' stories by another, that was five slots taken up. One person could easily dominate that entire section with a constant stream of garbage. We've got Path of Death up there now which is fantastic and deserves to be read, and I"m just wondering now if it gets even 48 hours before it gets shoved off the main page.

Annoying too, is when you get a game like the Sonic one that sends you around in circles trying to even find the link to rate it. Meaning multiple readers have to go through far more effort than the author did in writing it just to put in a vote for getting it removed.

BTW I was SO happy to see Path of Death in the new storygames. Haven't finished it yet but so far, it's awesome! I swear, this is the first time in a long time that I've seen anything good in the New Games section. This Fate was pretty awesome too ^_^

That reminds me that I still need to give This Fate a review, it was pretty late when I originally read it. That's another really decent one, I hope we get more like it from the author.

It's such a shame that the good games take so much longer to make than the crap ones. Or, rather...it's such a shame that people are making the crap ones at all. I wouldn't mind seeing a few stories that are actually good sitting there a week or whatever until they can gradually be replaced with others, that are also good.

Le Sigh. That really is one of the most frustrating things about reality, how it constantly fails to be how I want it. :-[

A time lapse might help. If anything at the moment making new storygames quickly is encouraged through points awarded for creating and publishing storygames.

There's a reason that all the other genres are displayed with their featured stories first and Newly Created storygames are in the bottom corner placed so deliberately next to the top rated stories on the site. The message is subtle but clear:

If it's your first time here, it's better if you read literally any other section.

Well, to recommend a game for deletion, it has to have been published for at least a whole week (7 days).

Edit: Okay, so it only takes a week if you are recommending deletion based on rating. There is no minimum time limit for recommending an unfinished game.
