So Far Harbor...

Yeah, it’s okay.

It’s basically Fallout 4’s Point Lookout with a lot more extra endings. Which is quite an improvement on the part of Bethesda.

They did take a similar situation from the original storyline though. Far Harbor’s storyline is also 3 factions at odds with one another. The Far Harbor folks, the synth colony of Arcadia and the Children of Atom’s Nucleus. You can decide which ones you want to side with or destroy.

The DLC sort of assumes you’re going to be taking Nick with you as a companion since that’s how you get the option to go there in the first place (A case to find a missing girl) and there is quite a bit of dialog and situations unique to Nick. (You can’t even enter one minor area without him) So you miss out on some of the storyline if you don’t take him.

The major flaw with the DLC is one part with the Minecraft puzzle shit. It’s a whole section where you go into a VR program to retrieve some info and order to do so you have to move blocks around like its fucking minecraft. It’s easily the worst part since you sort of have to do it in order to complete quest line.

You only need to do 3 of them for the quest line, but if you want to retrieve the bonus info as well you have to do all 5. Terrible idea even if it had been only one time though.

Anyway, there are naturally some new monsters to fight along with new armor and weapons. There’s a new companion too, but honestly I didn’t even use him.

If it hadn’t been for that goddamn fucking shitty ass minecraft part, it would have been a near perfect DLC.

Son of a bitch, I literally just made a Fallout 4 thread. Well, shit.

The new companion, Longfellow, is boring as shit. He doesn't do much. The hacking of the mind thing was also a massive waste of my time. I think a huge issue with the game is it fails to commit. It's not funny like Old World Blues, or scary like Dead Money, or Lovecraftian like Point Lookout. It tries to tread a line between all of them, and I don't think it does it well. Still, as for actual content, the game was lacking for its price. There were a bunch of quests, but most of them were just "Go here, kill everything there!" They'd just give me a place to clear and a reason why, and that was it. Most of the map was barren and boring.

Still, there was a lot I liked about it. I liked the multiple endings, it was a good boost, though. I loved the new Vault, I liked the actual Far Harbor and DiMo, I liked the few new creatures even though there wasn't many. The plot itself was fairly interesting.

Lol, maybe the mods can merge them?

I like how you get the option of telling the Institute about Arcadia.

It's funny that two of the four main factions would immediately wipe out every last one of them and end that story before you started.

Yeah, I waited until after I completed the main quest line to speak with the Institute scientist a second time.

You don’t even get the option to tell the Minutemen. Apparently Dima isn’t particularly impressed with the Railroad and says them wiping out synth memories sort of defeats the whole purpose of getting away from the Institute since they’re destroying who they were in the first place.

From the other thread…

I kept hearing about how silly the Atom Cats were, but I didn’t actually find them until after I beat the main storyline. I can’t even complete their quest line because the settler they sent me to do some repair for is dead.

The Gunners reminded me of the Talon Company 2.0. They’re every fucking where and are some big merc company, but yeah, there aren’t really any major quests directly tied to them.

The East coast BOS basically turned into the Enclave lite, which I didn’t mind, but I had to side with the Institute because at least with them I got to be in complete control.

Never liked the Railroad. I just did some of their quests to get the ballistic weave and the railway rifle.

I might have liked the Minutemen a bit more if Preston wasn’t whining every five seconds.

Nah, Atom Cats were fun. Silly, yes, but they added a but of joy to the world.

Yeah, Gunners are boring. i thought there'd be some cool things about them being descended from US soldiers, and perhaps you could do a bit of an evil playthrough helping them. There wasn't much choice to be evil in the game. A waste of talent, I'd say.

I think the BOS are an interesting example. They've become less obsessed with tech and more obsessed with killing things, so yeah, more Enclave. Still, they're badass as fuck. I'm not sure how much power you'd end up with in the Institute, though. I mean, you quickly have scientists rebel against you when you're put in power, and you don't actually get to make any decisions because of the board of directors. It seems you'd end up with your throat slit while in bed in an institute play through.

The Minutemen and Railroad were super boring. They had nothing going for them other than "We're the good guys!", and it was super disappointing.

Don't you dare hassle mod creators over it. Console users have been fucking obnoxious about this shit

I don't. I've actually never used a mod before, so I will probably be content with even one.
