HAWKEN: Now on Console.

Hey.

It's me, Tim.

Let's talk about videogames.

So, a few days ago, the game HAWKEN was released for console, previously being only available on PC. When I first found the game in it's beta, I fell in love with it. I mean, realistic mech combat?! Sign me up! (This was, of course, before Titanfall, but I still enjoy the realism.)

Eventually, it came to Steam in it's glorious final version, and my computer must have been so awed and impressed by it, it refused to run it out of nervousness and embarrassment.

And so, my dear HAWKEN was taken from me by inferior hardware.

Fast forward a bit, I'm browsing through the store on my Xbox One, and I just so happen to see HAWKEN available for pre-order, and I jump out of my seat. (Well, not really, I actually just said "Woah, nice!" and pre-ordered it, but you know what I mean.)

I came out on the 1st, and it's exactly how I remember it, but with more features, better graphics and not at 20 frames a second.

There isn't that many people playing, and I just wanted to ask you guys to give it a look! It's free, so that's a good thing, right?

So, yeah. Check it out.

Have a good one.

Bye.

I might, after my shitty internet is done with a 7 GB Halo update. (So, about three weeks)

It's a good game. Me being the occasionally mech obsessed person I am, I've played it on and off on PC over the years. Development stalled for a long time and it was disappointing to see it not make any progress. I'm glad a new set of developers were able to take it over and bring life back into it.

Other than making it run more smoothly, there hasn't been a lot of new maps, mechs or anything yet. But those are supposedly going to be on the way now that it's upcoming to consoles and is being worked on again.

And yes it's free! So people who like arcade shooters or simply think it looks cool; go give it a try. They only charge for faster unlocks and cosmetics last I checked, otherwise you can entirely play and enjoy it without paying anything.

Aww, you're part of that evil hive of Xbox villainy? Fuck you, go ps4!

That sounded completely hostile and unnecessary.

Sorry, then. But anyways, the game sounds interesting. What sets it apart from TitanFall other than realism?

You can customize your mech to have funny skins.

PC is objectively superior to PS4. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a profligate who belongs on a cross.

I get the reference. Thank you.

This is what I don't get though, when people say "PC" they mean "top of the line gaming PC" and not "shitty Dell laptop".

Actually that's only half true. When people say PC, they usually mean mid-grade PC too. You can build a decent gaming PC for $600-700 that'll run a lot better than a PS4 at this point. There's a lot of people out there who can't afford multi-thousand dollar rigs, and they'll live off of mid-grade gaming and shop steam sales for their games. Arguably thanks to steam sales you'll actually pay less long-term by saving more money on digital games. In terms of performance vs. value, the closest point the PC is with a console is the day a console is released.

From there PC tech gets stronger for its price as the market evolves, while the console performance is stagnant. That's why Microsoft and Sony are doing this mid-generation upgrade idea since they're concerned they'll lose customers who may consider swapping to PC for a higher spec mid-grade rig.

All that said it's about the games at the end of the day. As long as the games are fun and you enjoy yourself, it's not a big deal if it's a console, PC, handheld or something else. It's not all about the specs. The PS4 has some cool exclusives coming up.

Reaper mech was fun to use.  Then there were the Brawlers and Rocketeers...an entire team full of 'em.

I read this as "HAWKEN: Now on Lawnsole."

I am one weird person.
