YouTube is f*cked.

G*sh d*ng it, YouTube is at it again. H*ck.

For those who aren't up to speed, YouTube has recently released a new set of guidelines, which we all absolutely love.

"Content that is considered "not advertiser-friendly" includes, but is not limited to:

  • Sexually suggestive content, including partial nudity and sexual humor
  • Violence, including display of serious injury and events related to violent extremism
  • Inappropriate language, including harassment, profanity and vulgar language
  • Promotion of drugs and regulated substances, including selling, use and abuse of such items
  • Controversial or sensitive subjects and events, including subjects related to war, political conflicts, natural disasters and tragedies, even if graphic imagery is not shown"

?Already the new guidelines seem absolutely ridiculous. But you're screwed over if you consider making YouTube videos a job.

"If any of the above describes any portion of your video, then the video may not be approved for monetization. If monetization is approved, your video may not be eligible for all available ad formats. YouTube reserves the right to not monetize a video, as well as suspend monetization features on channels that repeatedly submit videos violating our policies."

What do you guys think of these new guidelines and the YouTubers affected by them?

They're just being tsundere because Jontron and Channel Awesome and all those other big youtubers have their own websites. Well, that and they're hogging all the ad money like a bunch of cunts, but maybe this'll have a positive effect on the community. Way back when fucking everybody had ads, it started to cultivate a culture of salt and wanting to gain more by taking or detracting from other people. Now it'll still be that, but more meaningless. Most of the big youtubers are fine anyway. They make money off of merch and the ads off their own websites. Now they just need another video engine, I guess.

If they wanted to ban esoteric fetish porn, they failed. As always. Porn always wins.

YouTube sucks at enforcing its rules even when they want to be super serious about them. They'll probably crack down on everyone for a few months until they stop caring and everyone goes back to doing what they were doing. A lot of people want to find another platform, but it isn't likely. There are too many YouTubers that use the site as their livelihood that can't just go somewhere wife else and make the same amount of money. Or maybe they could, but it would take a while to happen. I hope a competitor comes soon, I'd gladly go to an alternate media site if my favorite YouTubers chose to change platforms.

There won't be a competitor for as long as people find workarounds for their bullshit, like sponsorships and all that. The smaller guys might be completely unable to get up and going, but the mid-upper tier people who can do this for a living won't be going anywhere.

I'm not a youtuber nor do I watch youtubers who are big in the YT "community" so this has 0 effect on me. All I care about is watching vids. I already use adblocker and magic actions which both block yt ads so I've had 0 contribution to any youtuber's revenue stream anyways. The whole thing is meh for me and I think it's more of a loud minority that are like "I can't believe my favorite youtuber is mad - I'm gonna be mad too!" which has just spread over the last 18 hours or whenever this started.

In any case, nobody is gonna just stop using youtube because some youtubers decided since they can't make money they'll stop making videos. There are 0 competitors to YT and pretty much no chance of one just popping up in the next few years so they can do whatever they want because the vast majority of people just want to watch a youtube video and move on with their day. and I'm willing to bet a solid 40% of the average youtube browsers are there for animals or music, neither of which will be demonitized anytime soon...well, some music might be.
