Hi everyone!  Few days reading - first time posting.  :)

I'm currently bored and can't be arsed to find out which of the FA CYSs is the best to read right now, so I was wondering if someone here could suggest the best one they can think of.

As my name would suggest, I'm into medieval fantasy fiction (spells, wizards, castles, swords, etc. - you know the type).  I'm a big fan of the Lone Wolf series (Loved your interview with Joe Dever, btw!), so I don't mind it being a full-on gamebook and not just a CYOA... just so you know.

I'll be back in an hour or so, and whichever CYS has the most votes, I'll read.

Very well... Eternal, here I come.

Okay, so I read Eternal, died a couple times, and read all of the ancillary readings as well.

I never could bring myself to get to an actual ending, however, as it started to get (no offense to those who love it so much) a bit tedious to get through.  I found myself doing other things and keeping the story window open for days without feeling enough draw to get back into it.

It's certainly a good enough story as far as being thought out, and I can say without question that I appreciate the author's intricate back-stories and re-branding of old AD&D races... it just moved a bit too slowly for my tastes.

Also, for a story so highly lauded, I wasn't expecting there to be quite so many grammatical errors.  Then again, with that much narrative, I suppose one would get absolutely lost in the editing process, so I understand.

It was a pretty decent story - just not my speed.

Well, if the author's style doesn't ruin it for you, and it's more about pacing, then his story Necromancer might be more your speed.

Otherwise, you could try something like Magus: Betrayel or The Other World.

What about that Midnight Sun one you wrote?
I think I'd like to try one from someone that's been decently active with me on the forums.  :)

It's imaginative but pretty linear, horrible syntactically and features a horrendous maze feature.

I read the Magus: Betrayal story you recommended.

It was the right genre and layout, but it leaves a lot to be desired in the English department, unfortunately.  Whereas Eternal was a 7/8, this one was only a 5/8.  I was glad to have read it, though, because the artwork was 8/8!!  Seriously, whoever did the artwork for that story - I want to hire him/her for my next one!

If you feel like reading a throwback dungeon crawler CYOA with an advanced twist: go for Dungeon Stompage. If you are looking for something with a greater emphasis on plot and character then go for Necromancer.

Actually, I read Dungeon Stompage! before I even started this post!  :)

So I guess you're recommending Necromancer... another Endmaster title, I see.

Just know that I want you to think long and hard about which of your stories to recommend to me, because I won't take "Aw, I'm too shy!" as an answer next time!  ;)

If you're reading one of mine, then it absolutely has to be OMS. It's the most recent thing that I have published here and it's easily the best thing I've written in this format, unless you count one unfinished story that I discarded some years ago. I could actually link you to that. . .

All of that said, nothing I've written here is worth your time! That's not false modesty, I just haven't written anything recently. I can't stop you from reading my stories but we're in a thread discussing the best fantasy adventures on the website, so I'd be remiss not to recommend every single one that's better first.

I was about to say I couldn't find anything called OMS, but (as luck would have it) while looking up The Other World, I found a story called The Order of the Midnight Sun... which I'm assuming is what OMS is supposed to be.

23 but OMS was republished awhile after it first came out.

Funny you should say that - I find that most of the things I wrote at 23 are now the things that humble me the most.

You can't really go wrong with any of the featured games, though of course everyone has a different flavor of fantasy they prefer. It's a popular genre on the site, though, so I'm sure you'll come across something you enjoy.

And if you're really over 23 that makes you an old man on this site just fyi. The average age of the members here skews really young, nice to have another honest to goodness grown up person about. :P
