I need help...

Before anything, I don't need a co-author, this is a different sort of help that I require. I love writing stories and I also love expanding the backstories of almost every character, every event, generally everything. However, I have attempted and failed several times to make some shorter games that would maybe cure my writers block on several other storygames and get some points in the meantime.

However, as I attempted to write one, my nature started acting up and I started detailing first the characters, then some events and before I knew it, I had planned to start adding even more paths, resulting in the necessity of making even more details and so on. I tried this again several times only to get the same result, with me planning huge backstories to almost all characters and events, defeating the purpose of making a short storygame.

So now, I suppose, I'm asking two things of you a "good cure" would be appreciated in both.

1. How do I make a short storygame without feeling the need to detail every character?

2. A second alternative, would be telling me of a cure on writer's block, who has been plaguing me for a while now.

1. I'd suggest making a game that's more based on game or story and doesn't really focus on any characters. Maybe a puzzle game or something. Tower of Riddles was a pretty quick and easy game for me because the main character didn't really have any back story or much of a personality at all, the game was just about solving the riddles. Alternatively, some sort of variable based fighting game or a quiz don't require characters with any personality.

2. I don't think there is a cure for writer's block. You just sort of have to force yourself to write when you don't want to. cheeky

1. The thing is, I'm not that good at making puzzles(or solving them), hence the reason why I didn't participate in the puzzle storygame contest. As for a variable based game, I'm not sure, I mean, I'm just now starting to get the hang of the advanced editor, but I'm certainly in no position of making a variable based storygame. As for making a quiz... I have absolutely no idea about what to make it.

2. Damn it, I have a dozen games to work on(one of which I'm only a co-author) and no matter how much I try to force my brain to write something, I get absolutely nothing.

I'm no expert, but I don't think the solution to not being able to finish a story is to start another story.

I actually start other stories not because I tried and failed in writing a story, I simply made a storygame because I had ideas about what would translate well into a story and started making one storygame after the other each time I got a good idea.
