A Knight's Duty (Progress Thread)

This is the progress thread for Kiel and Seth's School Based storygame contest. I will update this thread daily with the progress I have made on it. The title of the story is A Knight's Duty and while one of the paths will be about a young man signing up in a prestigious academy that teaches all those willing enough about the necessities of becoming a knight from the code of chivalry to fighting with various weapons, it will have three other separate paths with a different character for each.

While each character will have a "main" quest they are encouraged to achieve, the characters will be able to branch off from the main quest and attempt various things. The setting of this, if it wasn't clear already, is a medieval fantasy one, with humans, orcs, elves and many other things inhabiting the world of this story. Now, because trying to add variables would take me too long to make, I have decided to drop that out as this will be the only way I will finish this story before the deadline.

For now here:

I will most likely prefer this over other contestants unless someone else brought another medieval fantasy (no, not a magic-focused one) or a good modern/sci-fi.

Keep it up.

One of the four paths is a mage path, though I think you'd probably like the hunter character path.

Played too much scouts/rogues. Time to get more taste on warriors/knights.

Be sure to not work beyond your limits. You're on a contest, and you need to finish on time. Focus on the interesting things and avoid unnecessary stuff.

Hunter and Mage sound fun to me. I was never really a fan of knight / warrior classes, personally.

It depends on the game mostly.

Most RPGs, I tend to play as Warrior or Rogue. Very rarely play as a mage or cleric.

But there are few exceptions...

Skyrim : Multi-purpose 'commando' skilled in one-handed, archery, sneaking, heavy armor, conjuration, restoration, and equipment making. Very versatile build that can do almost everything effectively. I'd call this build 'commando' due to its nature and versatility.

Dark Souls series: STR/FTH build with greatsword, bows, and some magic. Dark Souls series is one of the few games where I enjoy swinging heavier weapons.

Overall, I prefer hybrid builds that are versatile and can tackle most situations with varieties of tactics and ways.

I am quite confused, what exactly did the OP do to get you out of our writer's block and laziness?

??? I have no idea what do you mean. After reading the first two lines I thought you were mocking me.... right?

A Knight's Duty (Progress Thread)

Well you said "That's what I needed, thank you! I will finish it!" and thought that something I said in the OP(since you replied to it) had gotten you inspired. And no, I am not mocking you, why are you asking?

I am afraid I interpreted your post in a different way lol. My English sucks... Well my own progress thread had the same first two lines as yours and I was too lazy to finish it so... Lol

What? Every motivational thread has that. (Well, 80%)

The first two lines were about exactly similar and even the post title is similar. :)

Look to the post below for the explanation of this... problem if you want to call it that.

I just thought that it was natural to write that since I am actually participating in the contest and this is a progress thread... .sooo yeah.

or did I secretly controlled your brain momentarily??

Or did I secretly control your brain when you first made your own thread? XD

Nah, it was just a coincidence, so don't worry.

So the classes are mage, hunter and then presumably a warrior type heavily armoured one. What's the other one, if you're willing to reveal it already?

Rogue with two daggers I presume. I think she should use a cutlass and dagger instead.

It's more of a rouge-ish assassin since she actually is planning on assassinating someone.

A Knight's Duty (Progress Thread)

So sneaky assassin, huh? I see.

If I were you, I'll make her use thrusting sword or a saber and dagger in open combat. I like being sneaky, but sometimes it's boring to be stealthy all the time.

Well, when you're a spy/assassin in a fortress/academy filled with 15.000 soldiers and about 2.000 students(who can fight as soldiers), you'll need to be sneaky. Plus you can assassinate someone with poison or something similar rather than killing said person with sword/daggers.

She is also a spy? Oh...

So everyone has different missions depending on their specializations, huh?

A Knight's Duty (Progress Thread)

If iI give anymore away it won't be any fun to play it in the first place.

Understood. Have a good one.

Ok then, I've written all the first posts for each one of the four characters and a extra page for the knight path I've been able to somewhat plan a big part of the knight character path and a little part of the assassin/spy character part.
