Unfinished contest entry for a canceled contest.

So a few months ago there was a fan fiction contest hosted by @GMB13Carat which was either abandoned, or forgotten about eventually. I chose to do mine about Pong (the easiest one) but never ended up finishing it. I only have part of the introduction and I would like to see what people thought of it. It was meant to be comedic in the sense of how serious it was. Without further ado, here it is: Lost In Pong.

The dark cold wind around me breezes peacefully through my pixels as I am loaded onto the field of battle. An unsettling silence takes over the universe a moment before my rival is produced from 1's and 0's across the court from me. We do not speak to one another, as those actions are beyond our given boundaries, instead, she gives me a blank stare. Though her face remains deadpan, I can tell she is infuriated with my existence. We both want one thing, and one thing only. To win.

Just as expected, the one and only 'Pong ball' is formed in the center of the court. I hear a static-like voice enter my mind.

"-Beep- Player one, this is Gamer. Do you read me? Player one, do you read me? This is Gamer speaking."

"Loud and clear.", I reply.

"-Beep- Great, great", Gamer says. "Listen, I got a feelin that that ball is coming towards you first. So you have to be ready to take the first serve.

"Got it."

"And one more thing. Beware of rebounds from the corner of the screen. This girl is known for her spiked angle shots which sends that ball flying. Do you understand?"

"I do. I won't underestimate her. Not like... last time."

"It's fine Player 1. You can't hold onto the past." The countdown begins from five. After it reaches one, the Pongball flies towards me. Of course, just like he predicted. I get myself in the appropriate location to block it from entering my zone and I feel a whack on my body as it ricochets off of me. Player 2 does the same and the Pongball flies straight through the middle of the court to my side. An easy shot to block of course, but I remain on guard as I get the feeling P2 may be trying to loosen me up, so she can finally dish out a score. My shot goes to the bottom right of the screen. Player 2 JUST blocks it with the very tip of herself. What a show off. It causes the Pongball to speed up.

"Go to the middle!", Gamer shouts. What could he be thinking?! The ball will obviously fly below me if I do so. I know I need to go to the bottom in order to block this shot. But is blocking this shot worth the risk that Gamer won't trust me to follow orders anymore?

I do exactly as I'm told despite my instinct of going all the way to the bottom left. And just as Gamer predicted, I hit the Pongball as I was still moving down, putting more force onto it thus making it fly faster. It zigzags to Player 2's side with great speed. First it hits the bottom center. Which makes P2 instinctively go to the top right. But the Pongball was flying far too narrow and it ends up hitting the top just a few pixels before her, making the Pongball fly downwards and getting into her side.

"Score!" Me and Gamer shout in unison. One down, eight to go. Just because I am currently ahead of her right now, it doesn't mean I will loosen up. I have learnt from my mistakes.

The Pongball reforms in the center of the court. This time it goes over to P2's side. She does a standard sort of block between the center and bottom of the court. Gamer instructs me to go to the very top. I do so and the pongball hits the very end of me along with the corner, which flings it diagonally to the low center. Then it flies to the top center-right of the court before whipping to the center of P2's side. Though she had predicted it's movement and got there in advance to hit it as she was moving downwards.

Now the ball is whipping at me with amazing speed. So fast that Gamer doesn't have time to process the event and the pongball gets past me. Wow, Gamer wasn't kidding when he mentioned her spike shot.

"It's okay, we'll get it back." Gamer says with optimism. "I believe in you Player 1."

"I'll make her pay for that.", I declare with a note of cockiness in my voice.

So the game goes on for very long after. Me AND Player 2 get and take goals throughout. Near the end of the game, when the score is 8-7. Player 2 performs her infamous spike shot once again which scores past me and Gamer. Now it is tied, and the next goal wins! Before the final play, me and P2 each take a small break to talk with our Gamers.

Gamer begins to speak to me. "-Beep- Player 1. I'm very proud of you to make it this far with such a legendary opponent like this."

"You had faith in me from the start, Gamer. I couldn't have gotten here without your support." I reply.

"Oh, you're always one for a smile. Now, there's something I've been meaning to tell you until now. It's very important."

"Yes?"

"Umm... This may be the last time I ever talk to you."

"What are you talking about?"

"Well... We've lost twice in a row now. And... when a Player loses three times in a row. They... get a new Gamer."

"What!? But... but it can't separate us! I... I won't let it!"

"I'm sorry P1. It's in your coding. I just want to tell you that... No matter what happens, I'll always be your first Gamer and... I won't forget you."

"~sniff~ Me neither. I... I won't let you down. Friend." I say with my pixels getting teary.

"-Beep- I know you won't... Now get out there and play the best round of your existence!"

"Let's do it! Together!", we say in unison.

The pongball once again forms in the middle. After the countdown, it moves towards Player 2.

"Rebounds! Rebounds!" I hear Gamer shout to me. I get to the middle. Just as P2 unexpectedly starts off with her spike shot. It hits the bottom center just to whip back up to me where I deflect it. Now it flies extremely fast to P2's side in a zigzag manner. But learning from her mistakes, she deflects it from the middle. Now the ball flies straight in an angle going towards the top of my court. Gamer tells me to get to the appropriate location and I deflect it again.

Now the pongball is darting at a speed I have not seen before in any game of my life. It zips to P2 and she miraculously deflects it back to me, doubling the speed of the pongball. Gamer doesn't have enough time to tell me where to go, but to our surprise the pongball JUST hits the end of me.

For a while longer, I block the pongball countless times against my opponent. Once more it zips to her side, but this time when she deflects it, something unusual happens. The pongball slows down and starts to... spin. Me and Gamer are both immensely shocked. As we have never seen (or thought it was possible for) this to happen before. I can even see P2 looks just as surprised as well.

"What do we do?", I yell in panic.

"Atari, Analyze the endurance of spin.", Gamer says to the universe.

"What?! What are you doing?, I question nervously.

"....... Blocking."

My pixels pump nervously as the pongball flies closer to me. A spinning pongball could be very unpredictable so I must be cautious. No, no there's no time for that! I NEED to hit this. For Gamer and I.

"Player 1, if I black out you take the stick, okay?", Gamer tells me."

"What stick!? That's not possible!", I yell nervously.

"No. It's necessary."

P.S. I don't know why the spacing is so weird. It's just the tablet I'm using.
