Player Comments on Achilles II: The Chykri

Very good follow-up to Achilles. The writing in this game reflects the more polished and developed style used by the end of Achilles, with a new and mostly compelling plot overall.
My main complaint lies with the few battle scenes in this story. For a storygame depicting an epic war for the fate of the galaxy, General Achilles may as well have been Speaker of the House Achilles for all the battle decisions he made. Most of it was deciding funding and research grants and negotiations that, while important and enjoyable overall, should not exclude the battle scenes we're trying to support with all this behind-the-scenes work.
To be clear: I love what is here. But I want more battle tactical decisions, instead of just bureaucratic decisions impacting the battles.

Also, one last minor thing. After all that time choosing which ship designs and prototypes to support, it would be nice to see their names mentioned during the battles.

This was fantastic.
Sci-Fi is not a genre I like as a rule but this and it's prequel are exceptions: the writing is strong, the characters creative and the situations interesting throughout and your use of the Variables system is as brilliant as Sindri's use of the Items Feature in his Homo Perfectus series. The choices had effects which is always important in multiple choice stories and I think this could even by called a political thriller.
You both seem to really enjoy writing these and people definitely enjoy reading them so hopefully there will be a sequel that continues to branch into new areas, I think this story is definitely feature-worthy and it was impressively virtually error-free (I spotted 1 accidental duplication of the same link but I wanted to keep reading so I forgot to note which page).
This was fantastic, incredibly re-readable and I really hope you both write more :D

I really loved both in the series, the only issues were in the grammar but that was expected and not bad enough to hinder the reading. I would really love to see another in the series, its an amazing story with a great author spinning its tale. Thank you good sir ;)

i loved the overall story although when going back to check some of the other options the ones that lead to death(or running away are often only a small paragraph and perfereably would end up with a few pages to go down but it was pretty good otherwise

1/8 for the self-righteous atheism and promotion of interspecies marriage which is somehow even more damaging than interracial marriage.

It's rough, no doubt about it. Mistakes in spelling, grammer, and syntax abound. Yet with all that, you still tell a compelling story, better than many I have read.

The stat scale really needs to be defined. Is 85 good? Out of 100, yes. Compared to 465 Strength, though? Not so sure. Knowing would have influenced my choices.

Keep writing, and I'll keep reading. Become better, and I'll reread out of enjoyment instead of confusion.

This was better than the first part although has allot of room to improve.

I found the character development interesting. Obviously Achilles and his friends have developed a darker sense of humor from fighting for so long. And in general I found it slightly better than the last one

Perhaps my only complaints are the limitations in your strategic decisions, and the somewhat useless and tedious political aspects. Delivering the same speech three times is rather unnecessary. And you really don't have that many different political decisions to make except the obvious.

The strategy emphasized the wrong things in my opinion as well. Artillery wasn't even considered in the land battles, but in reality is probably the most cost-effective defensive and siege weapon. Gunships were only mentioned in passing, but they are extremely useful in covering advancing forces. Fighters would be used to protect these gunships against drones, or whatever else tried to kill them.

It's not that your strategy is wrong, just limiting. One of the things that I found most irritating was the inability to use area-denial weapons (such as mines) during the invasion. Mines are a cheap and effective way to halt enemy momentum, and prevent surprise attacks. And my apparent lack of them almost cost me my life and possibly gave me multiple contusions.

Still these are only minor complaints, and I think that this may be the best CYOA I've ever played. I could list off all the positives, but nobody would have the attention span to read such a long comment.

Like with the first, my only real issues were grammar, spelling, and lack of an inventory item to pull information up that might be relevant. Also, there were one or two bugs that likely need to be taken care of. But it was otherwise an amazing game.

Oh my God. I felt like i was reading an actual novel. The guy who wrote this really should write a book. This was THE best game I've EVER played. Oh, I just can't wait for Achilles III
