Player Comments on ESL Billy's Adventure

Before you read this, I have literally no clue what ESL is and that probably would affect the purpose of the story.

I’m pretty sure the person who wrote this story isn’t even active on the site anymore, but it’s okay. I just wanted to say how surprised I am at how short and enjoyable this story was. It has a decent plot and storyline, but it lacks WORDS; this story has so much potential that will sadly never be fulfilled. There are so many why’s, and what’s and who’s that could be answered through more words. So many subplots to be created; sadly, the person who wrote this can’t put enough effort into the game.

Issues, besides the fact that there are literally zero words in this game and every page, there is a maximum of ten words. There were a lot of issues with the choices, it felt like reality bent. Like you would choose the invisibility path, and it would make you invisible until you decided to send you home, which would result in your mom being able to see you. Little details like that example really drag on this story and not make it as fun to read.

Okay, this is after I have researched ESL, and this is actually a WHOLE better and almost decent. As of the time I am writing this, I am taking a second language, and it can be challenging to read meaningful stories, so I think that this is absolutely beautiful, and I’m changing my rating from a 4 to a 6. It’s meant to be short and sweet, but it still does lack an abysmal amount of effort. I think the author saw ESL as an opportunity to slack off when writing a story when, in reality, you have to work harder to make the story and plot even better. So that might explain the lack of effort.
There were some obvious grammar issues, and with stories that force their reader to focus on every single word, skimming isn’t possible, sooooo grammatical errors stand out twice as much. Sadly, with the amount of effort put into the game, grammatical errors cannot be escaped. There weren’t that much surprisingly, but surprisingly there were still a few.
Overall, this story and plot was decent; the grammar was also proper; the common sense implemented in the game was nonexistent. There were a few stupid choices and a weirdly creative plotline for every single decision. Lastly, it lacked words, and effort this game at least to me has extraordinary potential everyone else in the comment’s seemed to hate it. However, it has a slightly below-average rating.
There are probably a few end links I’m missing and other crap, but it’s alright.

I am sorry to tell you that there is a big bug in your game.In my game，I have never met Jessica and Tom,but they knows the magic book.

Well this was adorable. I only played until one happy ending. There were a few places where the selected choice takes you to an illogical next scene. However, the word level, pacing, and content look like they would be really good for my ESL students. They kept in the excitement, but took out all the difficulty. I might have the English Club try this out and see how they do. I have been looking for a choose-your-own-adventure story on a low level for a while so I'm so glad I found this!

I think it should have a more clear story of friendship or love between the three characters. Some plot points don't make sense. You gave good childhood choices. Do better next time. ????????!

Grammar was okay, but the story needs slight improvement. More deeper conversations. To many characters jumping out of nowhere. Try to have more balance.

We are fans of Tom. Tom does a very good job in the story. We want more stories with Tom and we want TV programs with Tom. Microwave.

It's a good ESL story. Everyone's criticizing it for being...well, an ESL story. I like it, because it's simple and easy to understand. I wish that people weren't such jerks about this, and with the pictures it would be a great resource to use in the classroom. There are some parts that don't make sense and/or are repetitive, but other than that it's a good story. 5/8

Pretty short pages, although this seems to be intended as a cute little kid story, so I can excuse it. Not great, but okay.

Just how the author articulates the narrator makes me hate this story and click away, but, I still like it.

Billy doesn't look at the book. Instead, he goes home.

I find a book, notice that it's very old, and then I don't even look at it. Someone tell me how that works.

Better than the other one. This one is actually a fairly engaging children's story using simple enough language that I think it could well work as an ESL exercise.

Pretty good for a children's or ESL book. I like that the reader can choose if, for instance, the door is locked or not. The pictures fit perfectly with the story. Good work!
