I’m just gonna post different songs I like and I’ll probably get bullied for it but whatever. Anyway here’s a song I like a lot, mostly cause of the saxophone, but still a great song nonetheless. I’ll probably share more music like this lol.

I forgot to mention, also put songs you like in here too. I’m curious on what most of the members here listen to.

I don't know how many people have heard of an instrument called the hurdy-gurdy but its basically like a violin that uses a crank that spins a wheel which acts as the bow. I know that probably is really confusing but it really is a beautiful instrument. Anyways this guy named Andrey Vinogradov is pretty much a master at playing it and he has a Youtube channel full of songs that I think people here might enjoy. I'll link one of my favorites called "Aequilibrium" if you guys want to listen.

That instrument sounds really nice. TED talk over.

So it's like a more mechanical and powerful violin? The sound is really nice.

Talking about weird instruments, I remember hearing one of these (it's called hang or handpan) on the street in Spain and it's really beautiful.

Yeah it's pretty much a mechanical violin shaped like a guitar. The keys on it are used to effect the strings vibration length which changes the sound. Kind of like how guitarists press down on the fret board to make the strings have different tones. We had a musician who played it in Pushkin when I was little so I got to try it out a few times. I'm glad you liked it.

Ah cool. Nice hand instrument. Here’s an example of another one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkortK6ilLI&feature=share (the “lyrics” of the song may sound weird but lol that’s how it actually is.)

Now Tabla is usually traditionally Indian, I came across this guy hoping for some ‘gangsta rap’ but heard this. My god that level of skill would require years of practice.

Just for comparison here’s how it actually is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ6t1aiJg5M&feature=share

That is very cool, especially with the comparison to a more traditional way of playing it. Instruments that break the norm have always been very fascinating to me. I just play the boring balalaika though. Oh and the accordion. But that isn't any more interesting than the balalaika.

Oh ya the balalaika, it’s the Russian guitar right? After seeing someone play it their hand was moving so fast that I could barely see it. But man the tune just sounds so good, I don’t think that any other instrument can produce the same quality and speed like the balalaika; other instruments usually compromise one of the two. I always wondered why you never use a plectrum while playing balalaika though, like won’t your fingers pain a lot without one?

Yeah its the Russian guitar. It's a fun instrument to play but unless you play with some type of pick your finger tips will get very calloused. But it sounds much better when strummed with your fingers as opposed to using a pick so the trade off (occasional finger pain/bleeding) is worth it. At least until your finger tips develop the texture and strength of leather gloves.

The balaika is among my favorite instruments to listen to.  That's really cool.

Ah! Some good ol’ medieval lute. This is true music.
