Does it really keep the changes if you close a page with "Close and save changes", and then leave without clicking the save and exit button? I just want to know whether or not I'm right in closing and reopening the story to re-save every five minutes religiously.

Yes. I almost only use the "Close and save changes" button. I'm not really sure that the "Save and Exit" link actually does anything...

It's the only way to save if you're on the basic editor, I think
