Edit without Unpublishing

So I just found out I'm not going to be able to make additions or changes to my story without taking it down completely and losing all ratings...and I assume this includes reviews? Say two years after you publish your magnum opus, somebody points out a typo - that seems like a lot to lose just to correct it.

This seems a little extreme and like a pretty big oversight on what's otherwise a fantastic, flexible editor. As far as I can tell there isn't even any way to edit the description or add author's notes, etc.

I'll refer you to this lovely post: Unpublishing Perhaps you don't lose as much as you think? I'd test this, if I had a story published...

You only lose your seat in the top games list.

Oh.

Um...officially switching my suggestion to making the message you get when unpublishing a little clearer then:

Are you sure you want to unpublish Shadow of a Bloody Moon? The following items will be deleted upon unpublish:

1 Saved Game
4 Ratings

Though of course now I notice that it doesn't specifically list comments, now that I've got one--losing those was my main concern, so I feel better about the whole thing.  :)

And as long as I'm just throwing stuff out here, some sort of 'writer's workshop' mode that would let selected people view a story and anything that's going on behind the scenes with it without actually giving them the power to edit would be awesome.

...why do all the good CYOA sites have to be abandoned by their makers? :(

I wonder if they gave JJJ access to the backend.

I do not have backend access, but I'm assuming even if I did, it wouldn't be of much use since Alex has said that the backend is a real mess, since this was originally a school project when he was a novice programmer back in the dark ages. It's probably real cluttered in the code and my novice programming skills wouldn't likely be of any use anyway.

That's a shame. I was more asking since I'm a programmer and would have been interested in doing some fixes. The again I didn't really expect you to trust me with the backend at this point anyways, I haven't been here very long after all.

Though if he actually comes back every once in a while to fix things I probably wouldn't be needed anyways.

Because of a little disease I like to call: having a life. Haha, most people who are talented enough to make good CYOA sites are too talented to sit around tending to a little non-profit website all day, and we shouldn't try to restrict them to one site.

Of course, it would be a lot cooler to have them around, but it's not gonna happen :(

The ratings don't even disappear from the games page, they just disappear from the back end. Yeah, saved games get deleted as well. It is confusing and it should be fixed, don't expect it to be anytime soon though. Throwing this in the B&P section.
