MODERATORS AND ALL THAT GOES WITH IT

By: JJJ-thebanisher (And all of his identitys)

The idea of Moderators was first brought up semi-publicly by none other then myself.  The original idea was to have certain members who would volunteer or even audition to become a half-admin type member.  These "Half-Admins" would be called Mods or Moderators for long.  The jobs of a moderator are long debated and still arnt perfected but things have certainly changed.  The main jobs of a Moderator would be: Content advisory in the forums whenever possible, for instance.

BillyJoMan: Hey I wanna make this pro pokemon game, I need ideas!!! Anyone?!
GaryGoJee: SHUT THE F UP MAN, YOUR AN IDIOT!!!
ModmanJJJ: Post Deleted, Gary, your points are going down now!

*JJJ deletes Garys post and deducts a fee of 10 MAG points for Gary".  The moderator could also deduct mroe for more serious actions or actions that have been already commited by the user.  So if Gary did it again then he would lose 20 points or more.

The second Duty of the Moderator would be featuring games.  If a Moderator happens to be strolling through the game lsit (Which has over 100 games!!! GO MAG!) and notices: WOW its this new spanking pokemon game by BillyJoeMan.  The moderator plays it, rates it and discusses featureing it with a full admin, such as the amamzing one and only Alexp!  However a Moderator could NOT! feature one of his own games.  And would lose moderatorhood for doing a bad job on any duty.

The third Duty of a Moderator would be to be fair to all members.  A moderator should NOT hold grudges, that is certain.  Once someone has commited a MAGCRIME and taken the punishment, he or she is still a user and should not need further abusing.

To prevent full-of-themselves mods, only the top (PLACE NUMBER HERE) members are moderators.  Let the judge be the points, amen.  Moderators can shift and turn and even be banished by the Amazing one and only Alexp.

Moderators should ALWAYS be active members of the community, whether its playing games and rating them and leaving helpfull comments or helping rookies on the forums, PARTICIPATION MATTERS!

Moderators could hunt out innapropraite material and after consulting the Amazing one and only Alexp, could delete it, this would help community standings and hey the less innapropriate games the better the sites reputation.  And I am dedicated to this sites reputation.

Moderators could seek out and destroy nasty, brutal, offensive, sexual and annoying comments and delete them.

Spamming or moving posts to there appropriate forums would never be an issue with Moderators.

And so, as you can see WE NEED MODERATORS.

Well done.

And by the way, published game count is 306. Unpublished count is 1602. So, once we get stronger community features programmed, we all need to make an effort to try to get the published vs unpbulished ratio higher.

Anda lot of those unpublished games aren't "one pagers" -- some are pretty big and have a decent start -- just no finish. One thing I was thinking of a while ago, an "adopt-a-game" program -- you know, for abandoned games?

YES! That would be cool!

Of course that's counting games in the graveyard. Non delted games are like 1,100. But there are actually some surprisngly good half-complete deleted games.

Moderators

Cool, on the member page, thats where the Adopt-agame should be.  Beside users naem, should be adoptable games...

Moderators

still havent answered my question, what do YOU think Mods should have access to, oh i forgot comment deletion. just remembered. anyways, adopt a game is good, but what happens if the author comes back and decides to play it but it is adopted, if you wnat ot adopt, make it from the graveyard.

Moderators

When deleted it automaticly goes to Adoption, maybe or else Author can just push un-adopt.  Unless its already published.  I dun know, Alex will,, he's the Amazing one and only Alexp.  Who says" I'm Alex, what can I say" he said.

Haven't put a whole heck of a lot of thought into it, but I have a feeling Round One of Moderators will be Forums (deleting, moving) and Comments (deleting). I do like the idea of greeting new members, and that could cetainly be possible once PM are put in.

Games, we really haven't noticed a problem with that. Only happens once in a while, so it's a lot of programming work for little return. But the forums and comments would be helpful, especially as we're starting to grow more and more.

As far as picking top games, I want to see how people rate the games. I'd like to see ratings automatically feature games and have a "so-and-so's pick."

Copied from Solo:

------------------------------------------------
Moderators will do the following:

Check all posts to make sure no spam/foul language
Check all games to make sure they are appropriate
Check to make sure there are no bugs on the site
Maybe even personally greet a new member who has joined and welcome them to the site (just an idea)
Check all user profiles to make sure there are is no foul language and is approriate.

All things above can be email notified like:

"A user has just..."
"A thread has been created" not post or that would be annoying

Can I have the power back to move posts in the General forum to the forums they go into? I barley touched it in the first 3 days. There are tons of posts that need to be moved.

Moderators

Say what now?  I want this power!

Moderators

I started replying to every post that didn't go in the general forum and telling Alex which one it goes into. Eventually he just gave me the power to move things in the message boards.
