Introduce yourself and get to know the community.

well hello there...

I don't know how to really start this out...ha ha. Anyways just felt like I should introduce myself since everybody else here was. I read some of the other introduction posts that people made and thought I might give it a go even though I'm not really used to this sort of thing. The introducing part, not the forum part - just felt like I should clarify that. Uh yeah I like dinosaurs and extinct animal species as you can probably tell from my username. Although I probably won't make a CYOA game about one..well maybe now that I think about it. I actually like writing about a lot of different things, as I've grown older. But I spent most of my younger years writing about wolves or foxes - yes I was one of those kids. I don't really know what else to say other than I hope you'll enjoy the stories I make? Well that and to see if a more experienced member could give me a few tips on starting out. ~ Ha det

Welcome to ChooseYourStory!

To start, I would like to say that the fact that you know what interests you is a great milestone in writing - even if they don't become the base of your future works, they could very well be used to add intricate detail. For the most part, I'd say that the community here is active and supportive.

Occasionally, a contest would be hosted. To participate, all you have to do is simply write a storygame that meets the site's requirements. A great place to start is Mizal's Best of 2019 contest, which has no specific themes and a distant deadline. Contests, for the most part, are a great way to start producing content if you don't know where to start.

I am looking forward to seeing your stories. Best of luck!

Tip #1 - you're gonna need to rethink that Warrior Cats game lol
We have like, maybe three hard rules here for storygame content and 'No Warrior Cats' is one of them.

Otherwise, best advice I can give is to start small with your first game, and remember there's no rush, so make it an actually complete game that's been proofread and polished.

Everybody winds up with different approaches to the actual writing part but some kind of planning is usually necessary as far as the choice structure. First you want there to *be* choices obviously, and they should be choices that matter. You also are most likely going to want to have some general idea of where the different paths will go so it all doesn't get away from you once the branches start to sprawl.

Welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy your time here. For a tip, start small, but not too small. Don't try and write a billion-word epic, but don't write 1,000 words either. Just try and write a complete story that has a beginning, middle, and end. And that's actually more difficult than it sounds with CYOA, so good luck!
