Both suck.

Ron Paul!

McCain or Obama?

i think both are pathetic choices. this country has known for a long time that we needed a shake up. but instead of working on our country, they decide to put the country into a situation where we will either have a black president or a female VP. such pathetic tactics to distract a country in need.

You didn't mean that like it sounds, right?

McCain or Obama?

Oh, and I'm voting against Sarah Palin.

McCain or Obama?

i didnt really mean to say that both were 'pathetic choices'. nor did i mean to imply ANY sort of racism or sexism. HOWEVER, i did mean to say that our country has not had anything new in a VERY long time. every candidate is the same. lie to get in office, then do little to change the country for the better.

Both are in with the illuminati too. Still, Obama. Two things are worse than Obama. Hillary and Mccain.

McCain or Obama?

HILLARY and Mccain? Hillary hasnt been a force since Obama beat her for the nomination. did you mean Sarah Palin? Just wondering.
as for Illuminati, isnt the whole US government? lol not just them.

I didn't say that she was in the running, merely that she was worse.

I would have liked to see clinton as a president or vicepresident, too bad that wont happen.

McCain or Obama?

Dude, Palin got raped in the VP debate. I mean, she wasn't too bad. She did better than I thought she would. But "better than I thought she would" means she didn't stumble. Other than that, Biden spanked her. She changed the subject 6 times or something, didn't answer most if not all of the questions thoroughly, and used the DEBATE like a forum to talk to the people of America, or "Joe Muthahfuckin Sixpack." Geez. But what I love was when - I don't remember it word-for-word - but Biden said that "The road that a McCain and Palin administration will take us down will truly be a BRIDGE TO NOWHERE. I could just see the shock and awe in Palin face when Biden laid down the law. Plus he dispelled McCain's eleged "Maverick"-ness. So, yeah. Biden and Obama know how to talk, and you know what? I rather have a smart president than a president who MIGHT be smart but meanwhile is just making up BOLD FACED LIES and shit.

McCain or Obama?

if you are waiting for a politician that doesnt lie....you have a long time to wait. both obama and mccain have lied. sorry to break your heart lol. dont get me wrong though, im not for either party right now. im simply saying that neither have a clean nose.
but also keep in mind, a smooth talker doesnt equal smart. ;) Bill Clinton was a smooth talker, not very smart though.

Beating on Bill is not cool, as far as I'm concerned. He did alot of great things.
Obama >>>>> Mccain

but yeah.. neither

McCain or Obama?

We need Obama because the reason the economy is in doom is because of the republicans. John McCain is old and Sarah Palin is more concerned in attacking the other party. Obama WILL bring change. IF McCain is voted in, it will be a continuation of bush's government. Remember the William Clinton days of the 1990's? The economy was running smooth and gas was in the $1.20-1.60 range. This bailout bill will not strengthen the economy in the immediate future.

McCain or Obama?

McCain or Obama?

Damn it, Anubis!  Haha, I was getting into it until you had to go and post one of your long ass posts!

Yeah.... He may be one of the Illuminati, but Ron Paul is hardly a douche bag - as Clinton, McCain, and Obama are.  It's stupid how these politicians work...  They supposedly our "public servants."  My ass.  Take, for example, the crisis we're in financially:  Congress would like to pass that stupid, gay, fukin thing giving the banks 700 Billion dollars, but they don't because it's election year, and no one wants their name on it if it doesn't work - they're afraid that they won't get re-elected.

But that aside (I forgot where I was going with that), the Illuminati suck.  Obama will break this country.  McCain will blow it, and the rest of the world, up.  Ron Paul is the Balls.

McCain or Obama?

Well, I believe Obama will do what he can to the best of his abilities, of course he will attend to the needs of those above him (*cough* illuminati) before that of the Country, but what do you expect.. At least it's not Hillary or Mccain.

Fuck, if it's Mccain, we're all fucked.

McCain or Obama?

Well, with Obama, I expect him to fail in whatever he's planning on doing due to the fact that the US is broke as fuck.  I'm sure he'd like to help everyone, but he can't.  He just can't.  We have no money for him to do whatever it is he wants to do.

Honestly, until the Democratic convention, I hadn't heard a single one of his policies.  And now that I know what he wants to do, I know he can't do it.... without money.

The currency based system that rules the world is totally stupid. View Zeitgeist 1 and 2 (two came out this morning on the internet, www.zeitgeistmovie.com).

We need a resource based system.

i dloaded zeitgeis one last week, i didnt know there was a sequel in the making! and you really shouldnt run with all that zeitgeis says, do some research and verify for yourslef the truth. what i found really interesitng is the federal reserve, i never knew that it was all foreign investment!

Oh man, Solo I have 45 different videos about the same topic with slight variations, and each lists their sources, and I have done alot of thorough research. I don't "run" with everything that is said, but I do pay attention. The end of Zeitgeist II, is thoroughly amazing and you will love it.

McCain or Obama?

I think hillary should have won because it would be like having Bill in the office again,  which was one of the only times the budget was even improving, I mean look at the economy now, I dont think McCain or Obama can fix it, McCain being a carbon copy of Bush (enough said there!) and Obama not having any experience. And don't even get me started on Palin! McCain thought that women would be stupid and vote for him because he chose a woman! He could have at least chose a smart woman who could name more than one of his accomplishments (if he has more than one) ! And all she's their for is to be an attack dog who can act like other people are more stupid than her and Obama's bad! Who cares if she can see Russia from her house! I can see the moon from my house, does that make me an earth to moon ambassador?!?! And nobody should care what the other person can't do (see any of McCains adds) I mean if you were confident that you were a good canidate then you should say what YOU CAN DO. Dirty Politics these days.

I see why you rant so much, that felt good = )  . lol

Hillary would be an alright prezzie, but...naw. She's more of that sidelines Democrat. Obama ftw.

McCain or Obama?

I'm voting Obama because I feel that this current state of the US is the republican's fault. Obama is promising change for the nation. McCain is keeping it the same. So i mean it's kinda self explanatory. Plus if shit get's worse, Canada is about 10 minutes from the house lol. I have lots of family there so I'll be okay

McCain or Obama?

Hillary. Hillary..... >:(

She was for censorship, the "National Sunday Law," the war in Iraq, a "smart fence" to keep illegal immigrants out, military bases all over the world, AND ALL OF BUSH'S POLICIES! >:O  Fuck that ho.

Aren't you Canadian?

I'll be voting against Sarah Palin.  But what is Obama really for?  Change, yeah, I got that.  None of the candidates ever speak to the issues that I care about.   I've resigned myself to the idea that the government doesn't really care what I think.

Fleshy, all know that a little flaming (Heheh) isn't uncommon in the forums - especially in the lounge.

That aside, Obama seems to want to spend all of the money we don't have, while McCain wants to just shit on everything.  Well that, and he is stupid... and has a stupid running mate.  I don't care that he's old, but those other things still apply.

McCain or Obama?

Economy, National Debt, Devaluing of the Dollar, Useless programs, boards, services, and "wars."  The use of fear for political gain and the abuse of powers(aka terrorism)!  Not terrorism as used by the idiots and anus heads, but real terrorism; the kind the US uses.  The IR-fukin'-S.

These are the main things I'm concerned with.  If the politicians would actually address these, I'd be more than willing to change my mind about them.

McCain or Obama?

Frankly, Obama isn't as much of an asshole and incompetent fool as McCain is. So, no, Obama is no FDR and no Lincoln, but he's damn better than McCain.

McCain or Obama?

Look, I don't know if he's "better."  McCain will ruin the world.  Obama will ruin this country, thus ruining the world (just look at the stock market; how it's screwing other nations up that have stock invested here.)  McCain is obviously an asshole, yeah, and Obama is just a closeted one.

McCain or Obama?

Obama IS better. He is less tied to the modern illuminati and that's what matters right now.

btw: The devaluing of the dollar WILL NEVER STOP as long as the banks that sell money to America are PRIVATIZED. The Federal reserve runs America, NOT the President.

"Money is debt". "Every dollar in America right now is owed to someone else."

If every debt (including the governments) in America was payed, there WOULD BE NO MONEY in America.

This is because the federal reserve prints money to America AT INTEREST. If you think about the absolute blatant idiocy of the system, you will see that Income Tax is really only a means of paying back the Fed.

Also, there is NO law in America that makes you pay income tax. .

McCain or Obama?

Ever since money stopped being backed by gold economies became uncontrollable. I saw the VP debate replay in my time zone and was disgusted by Palin's evasiveness and use of the debate to speak to the viewers. I think one of the reasons she got away with what she did was that Biden (I think that's his name) was being cautious about criticising a woman, possibly giving McCain more terror ammo.

I was also disgusted by the conflicting data and statements. I think the mediator/moderator should check each statement's veracity.

About the illuminati... I think i'd prefer someone dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge than, oh, mike huckabee, who didnt make it past the preliminaries but if he did would probably be burning every copy of "On the origin of Species" that he could find.

McCain or Obama?

Oh, I know this (about the IRS and Illuminati).  Hell, I wrote a paper on it in my Freshman year.

And as for the income tax "law."  Though it isn't a law, the thing that tells people to pay taxes is in the Federal Tax Code.  I know it's a private organization and that they don't, under the Constitution, have power to take people's homes and stuff, but because it's written in the Federal tax code, it applies.  Now with that said, the Constitution is the supreme law of the law, which trumps state and even federal law.  Therefore, in order to keep even a sliver of legitimacy, the tax code does not REQUIRE anyone to pay - as it is voluntary compliance.

So, yeah.  No law makes you, but there is one that says you can if you'd like. :P

McCain or Obama?

Frankly, the economy's a whole mess right now. The only way to salvage anything would be to radically reform the entire world's monetary stuff, and that is just not possible right now.

And Zero, stop being so pessimistic about this election. I just don't understand how people say that this next election will screw us over. Tch, yeah because electing Bush wasn't bad. HE'S the one who destroyed the US in less than 4 years. Or maybe it was just his administration. Maybe it was his administration who pulled the strings and funked us up. Well, that's not an excuse. The President should be running the Executive show, and not take any guff from anyone!
Anyway, back on track, I don't understand how people can sit there and stare, basically, at two very different candidates and think that Obama and McCain are the same. THEY'RE THROWING SPITBALLS AT EACH OTHER FROM OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE SPECTRUM!
Look: You have Obama who promises lower taxes for a whole lot of working Americans, cut spending on or shut down all together unnecessary programs, do some magic on Social Security, and a lot of other stuff that can seriously benefit "Joe the Goddamn Plumber". Then, you have McCain who...uh...lies about Obama, actually. I mean, I don't really know what he's going to do. He started out with similar platforms as Bush and few other things that weren't too awesome, and spent just about all of his time making ads and talking at assemblies about how bad Barack is. I guarentee you, AT LEAST half of the stuff you find in the McCain ads about Obama are false. Just flat-out lies.
There. SIMPLE.

And for those of you who say Barack is as much a liar as McCain, psh. McCain's are meant for the folks who aren't paying attention to politics, and my friends - he tricked you.

Speaking of Joe the Plumber...
"Why is Joe the Plumber so important to this next election?"
"Because our economy is in the toilet."

McCain or Obama?

to imply that Mccains lies are worse than Obamas is comical. both have lied. lies are lies. both have made promises as well. the real question is, can anyone name a president that actually didnt lie and kept all their promises? maybe Washington.
nate

McCain or Obama?

I'm being realistic, Anubis.  Also, Bush has been around for, not 4 years, but 8.  12, if you count his douchebag father.

"Obama who promises lower taxes...cut spending on or shut down all together unnecessary programs, do some magic on Social Security, and a lot of other stuff..."

Yeah, how?  What "magic" will this man perform for this nation?  How does he intent on lowering taxes AND achieve universal health care or make more jobs availible or do anything like that?  Is this guy Jesus or something, because he seems to be performing lots of miricles...

"McCain who...uh...lies about Obama, actually."

Well, he's a shit head.  So, yeah.  That's still not to say that Obama hasn't done anything questionable like, you know, "a little blow."  But even still, that's no reason to count him out for the election, right?... but there goes the notion that he's some kind of saint.  Now, specifically, what's Mcinsane saying about the Obomination that isn't true?  (Not say you're wrong, I just want to know.)

And also... He tricked who?

McCain or Obama?

Dumbass, I know Bush has been in office for 8 years. It took him 4 years to do most of the damage.

"Magic" was a joke. He's going to take off money spent in Iraq - not all, but some - and improve that stuff. And health care should be socialist. I rather pay taxes to help hospitals and get people insurance than some asshole company to play me like a fool. Plus, Obama's plan to give tax cuts to businesses hiring in America is a very plausible way to make jobs. Yeah, I see how there's not enough money for the government. But, hell, they're stashing a lot in Iraq. Make it an objective to get out of Iraq. The war's not doing us any favors except giving us a bit more gasoline to fuel our unnecessary obsession with petrol.
But that's the thing about exfiltrating. Iraq will be a little easier than Afghanistan. There's no reason, other than greed for petrol, for the US to stay in Iraq. Switch to alternate fuels! And not just natural gas or solar or wind. ALL OF THEM. Make a car, not now but in the near future, that can accept all forms of alt fuel. Give coupons for solar panels for people's roofs. Build some wind farms and do whatever you can to increase efficiency. Use ethanol if it's efficient and cheap. Don't forget Hydrogen Fuel Cells. That's another cool way to replace petrol. (Yes, I know that water - HFC's only exhaust - is an element of global warming, but that's no reason to say no to it completely.) I mean, ideally, the reformation of cars can be done in a single year. Every company releases a car, preferably a fully electric and/or hydrogen fuel cells. Realistically, it will take perhaps a decade or probably more until the vast majority of people have alt fueled cars and homes and such. But it can happen. Now in that sense, both candidates promised that, and you can argue about who looks like they're actually going to do that, so I'm going to leave that one alone.

And no, Obama hasn't stayed completely out of the bashing, but when McCain says "Obama spent the most money of flaming ads than anyone ever in the history of the entire universe (lol exaggeration...maybe)", that's a lie. I'd just smack McCain in face.

Then again, I'm sure we can and have already agreed that nobody likes McCain for pretty much every reason ever. In that respect, I know why you are targeting the next guy, Barack, and saying "Why is he so awesome?" Frankly, Obama is going to win. Unless they pull a Dubya and "recount" the votes, he'll realistically win. I'm just trying to point out why Obama is not as bad as everyone wants to believe.

Racists...

I'm just kidding. I know you guys aren't racist. Frankly, if race makes a difference on who you're voting for, you are a bad person. I mean, if that is the SOLE purpose you vote for a candidate or the other, you disgust me. Yes, I realize Barack will be the first Black President, but I'm actually happy that nobody really is as amazed as you'd think. I mean it's kind of like "Hell. It's about time." (lol Starcraft II reference)

Oh and when I said "McCain tricked you", I was just saying how his ads are literally designed to fool the people who aren't skilled with politics and don't know that McCain is a fuggin liar.

James Polk was a man of his word, but in terms of sheer importance in the world, FDR takes #1. Yeah, he had four terms, but he made America pretty damn good, at least as it came out of the depression. Yeah, most of it was because of the war, but...so? Uh, don't get me wrong, Polk did good work, son.

McCain or Obama?

Jesus, Anubis, your posts... suck! ><

Ok... 1.  You're the dumbass.  Just sayin' :P

Also, I know you were joking with the whole "magic" thing, but I still didn't know exactly what you meant, as you weren't being specific.  Tax cuts for businesses sounds a lot like tax cut for the rich to me.  Sure, Obama wants to get out of Iraq, but you understand that he isn't going to transfer funding to the people, right?  He says he wants to get out of Iraq and INTO Afghanistan.  (Sure, there's a reason for being in Iraq.  More power.  That's why we're everywhere.  You don't fuck with a nation with 700 bases in 130 countries.)

As for the coupons for solar panels and such.  That's up to the companies; if they want to give coupons, then they do it, not our federal government. <.<   What they could do is give people X-ammount of money for doing things like buying solar panels and whatnot, but the old question araises:  With what money?  Also, if everyone buys solar panels, it'd put the current sources of engry companies out of business, which would lose jobs.  Ethenol really isn't that cheap either... Thanks to that crap, corn costs more - that's all it's really done.

If you're saying that the environment is no problem, or a minor one, then really, why not just go back to good ol' black coal? *sarcam*

As for the cars, yeah, car companies could do that.  They won't, but they could, and the federal government's not going to so a damn thing about it.  I don't care who promises what.  Plus, the same thing goes with the oil refineries and such.  They'll all be out of jobs too.  Besides, I don't want to mess with something in my car that can potentially blow up cities.  *kidding*

Who wouldn't want to smack him in the face?  Well, I don't want to get any McCain on my hands... You do it.  :P

What makes you think that we watch McCain ads and take them as if they were fact?  You hurt my feelings with that.  (Not really)

JJJ... You know, Canada is a part of America.  Fuck the US is more like it. ;)

Also, Lincoln was cool and all, but his methods were bitch.  I mean, I'm not a fan of slavery, but still... Lincoln was kind of an ass.

Super special side note:  Damn it, Anubis!  Stop posting so much!  Tone it down a bit.  I spend too damn long in reading and responding to these freakin' things. ><  ... Ah, whatever, do what you want. :)

Neither McCain/Palin nor Obama/Biden, nor really anyone I hear has the right view on Russia. Particularly, the Russian-Gerogian Conflict of 08.  Frankly I think that some people still think we're in the Cold War. Whatever. The point is: Russia was keeping its borders under control, Russian style. Georgia is run by an asshole dictator that we, the US, put there to try and stop it from becoming Soviet. Now, Russia feels like Georgia has no place there, and that stuff should change.

The US thinks, "Oh, how could you attack this country when it hasn't directly attacked you?"

What gives the US the right to blame Iraq for harboring the terrorists responsible for 911? If anything, Saddam Hussein kept the terrorists OUT. Hussein didn't accept any nukes from the A.Q. Khan network because he thought it was a trap (queue Ackbar). In other words, the US was "defending its interests" half a planet away! That at least warrants Russia being able to defend itself from its neighbors which could actually do some mischief!

McCain or Obama?

Well we know the US is hypocritical and we know it wasn't right to attack Iraq but does that make it right to attack Georgia?

McCain or Obama?

Sorry, I meant that when US politicians say "Russia had no right," I'm saying how they can't talk.

But you know, US Americans - that's the correct term btw - are uberly-judgmental, particularly about foreign nations and cultures. My favorite example was when this one news reporter (was it Fox? Wouldn't doubt it...) went over to Iraq and scorned the people there - who were captured extremists I believe - for "forcing" their women to wear the veil. Ooh, the evil veil! Look! 'Evil' and 'Veil' even share the same letters!! No, but basically they were dissing the veil and saying how it "oppressed the women." Man, Westerners are so self-rightous. I don't recall her name, but the Queen of Jordan was interviewed by some dude - Fareed Zakaria, forgive my spelling if it's wrong - and explained how the veil was optional. The more orthodox women would usually wear it, but you weren't FORCED to. Maybe it's different in Iraq, but I doubt it's so evil. I mean, is the yarmulke evil, too? That's worn out of humulity.

Anyway, my point is this: You can't blame a country for a terrorist attack, kick down their door, barge into their cities, overthrow their government, drain all their oil, and then start making fun of their culture! That's just foul, and it makes Americans look bad! Grrr...

Oh, yeah, Georgia. Frankly, Putin > a lot of US Prezzies. A LOT.

McCain or Obama?

Naw dude, you're totally wrong. The veil in Iraq is something enforced by the Taliban government. If a woman is spotted outside her house without it, she can be put to death. How can you NOT make fun of that?

Okay. There's this guy on Youtube. His username is drinkingwithbob. His videos consist of screaming into his camera about how wrong Obama is and how great McCain and Palin are. I'm a liberal and he is the most hardened conservative I have ever seen on the internet.

I keep telling myself that he's making valid(?) points and that yelling a lot is his video style. At the end of the day though, I still hate his guts. I try to be open-minded, but the way he keeps treating Obama like a villain doesn't do much for my vision of the Republicans.

Before the two-party controversy starts, I'd like to say that I do not necessarily dislike the Republican views, but their actions and attitude, especially during this election is disallusioning.

Anyways, I just want people's opinions on Bob. All his screaming starts to make my brain shut down after a while so it's nice to be able to discuss with a group of informed people.

I don't like the right wing, and McCain/Palin in particular. Their messages seem to be based on FEAR, DOUBT, IGNORANCE and STEREOTYPES. It is a tactic that evokes emotion, not reason. Fear is the mind-killer. Keep the people afraid for "national security" and you can JUSTIFY ALMOST ANY ACT. Examples include the Iraq war, Vietnam War, Korean War and the hideous treatment of asylum seekers in Australia.

I also don't like the way they seem to be promising the rich corporations and their excecutives help, instead of the average guys who actually need it and don't have a massive bank balance.

Finally, if McCain dies, Palin takes over. And Palin's reign would be... a historic benchmark for stupidity.

Not to mention the Patriot Act.

McCain or Obama?

Maybe I said this before, but realistically, Obama will win. Or at least McCain will lose. The only people who'd vote for McCain are the idiots who are too stupid to do research that they are brainwashed by McCain's lies. That's all he does, McCain. He LIES.

Well, even so, if there's one thing that I agree with McCain on it's Nuclear energy. It's gotten a bad rap and everyone thinks of how hazardous it is. However, with the right research it's clean and dependable. I believe Penn and Teller made an episode about it. ('Course, I can't believe everything they say, can I?)

McCain or Obama?

Good god, somebody finally gets it. McCain bases his campaign, in my opinion, on bashing others. He can hardly answer a question without bashing obama or another Candidate.

In our 8th grade election yesterday, Obama won, 72.2% to 27.8%

McCain or Obama?

Word, Silver. Probably every single time McCain speaks, he focuses on how Obama is bad. But he's always lying! And I love it when he says "Obama admitted it openly!" when he's talking about THE OPPOSITE of what Obama said.

GOD! IT PISSES ME OFF!!! The problem with McCain is that I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE'S GOING TO DO other than bitch about our two wars in the Middle East and praise Nuke Energy. Fine, Nuke Energy isn't bad, and it isn't going to turn the US into a whole big Chernobyl...unless we have a meltdown. Then shit would go down. Otherwise, there's no reason to exclude it and use it along with Wind, Solar, HFC, Ethanol if you want, and Poopower.

McCain or Obama?

Lol. Not a big fan of nuclear energy, but thats your opinion. But god, one of McCains biggest points is that Obama has no experience. Guess what McCain, NEITHER DID LINCOLN!

One word: Geothermal

McCain or Obama?

Geothermal is nice and great and there's really nothing wrong with it, but it's just not enough energy for the country on it's own. I KNOW WE CAN WORK GEO INTO OUR COALITION OF ENERGIES, but if you have such a fetish for Geo, move to Iceland. Hell, I'll go if you don't want to. Except I'd need to learn Icelandic first...

McCain or Obama?

lol dude, if we properly harvested Geo, we could power the world forever with just it.

McCain or Obama?

No. You can't. You just can't. lol

Geo just isn't that effective AS OF NOW, and last time I checked, we are living right now. But I'm all for researching more efficient Geo.

McCain or Obama?

I saw some comments by Mc Cain supporters last night... they were incredibly stereotypical. They actually BELIEVED the lies and fear campaign and thought Obama was a muslim; and therefore a terrorist, evil, antichrist, etc...

They talked about defending their christian heritage and the constitution (which ironically separates church and state to prevent state-sanctioned witch-burnings and the other products of fundamentalism)

Just as I was convincing myself that the people I saw on chaser weren't common... I shudder.

So...no-one has anything to say about drinkingwithbob in particular? Alrighty then.

Conservative vs. Liberal

I've been thinking about and...why are conservatives so harsh on liberals? I've just been noticing this now, but conservatives seem to look down on liberals. Then again, I could be naive and not see that the wind blows both ways, but I have yet to see that. Based on what I've seen so far, here are the extreme stereotypes:

Liberals: Self-proclaimed 'Intellectual' or mother. Huge egos, don't know what they're doing or what politics are. Surrendering wussy socialists/anarchists/unamerican pagans. No moral values, letting anyone get away with anything. (Oh, and Obama is a terrorist)

Conservatives: Uninformed inbred hicks from the South with IQ lower than their pants.Gun nuts with no compassion and too much pride. Next class is stuffshirts who spend all their time writing articles on how stupid liberals are and how much the war is worth it. Some are obnoxious enough to make it as a newsanchor or editorialist (Is that a word? Oh by the way, McSame is really old).

So yeah, I think these are how many of people from these philosophies see each other, albeit exaggerated. Is this at all accurate or is it not as bad as I think? Just thought I'd ask for thoughts.

Conservative vs. Liberal

Don't forget; conservatives are racist and superstitious/fundamentalist, kind of ironic considering they hate their muslim counterparts.

Conservative vs. Liberal

Colin Powell made an excellent point during an interview - I believe when he was endorsing Obama, but maybe in a later interview. He was replying to how everyone is accusing Obama of being a Muslim. Then he said (something close to this:) "The immediate answer to [the question of whether Obama is a Muslim] is 'No, he is a Christian and always has been,' but the true answer is 'So what? What if he is a Muslim?' You see, there's too much racism and prejudice in America, and people use this...idea that Obama is a Muslim as if he would be a bad president all because of his religion."

Pwned. Frankly, America is too religious for its own good. We are [supposed to be] a free and equal country and society, but we just don't have that 100% yet.

Conservative vs. Liberal

so, in the same argument he says both: we are too religous, yet we need more freedom...does he realize that freedom of religion is something people are intitled to?

also, someone's religious affiliation is important. juts like all their other views in life. i sure as hell wouldnt vote for someone who believes in scientology! those people are wackos!

nate

Conservative vs. Liberal

While, I agree that scientology is fucked, you cannot call all scientologists wacko's. Thats simply biased and prejudiced.

And sure you have freedom to religion, but religion and state should be seperated. Why is your slogan: "In god we trust"

Conservative vs. Liberal

more of a generalization. but whatever.

in order to have religion and state separated, we would have to have a government that doesnt give us that freedom. if they are separated then we should have it with or without government sanction. sort of a catch 22. but thats politics. as for our slogan, our government put it on our money. we tend to follow the laws of our government. lol besides, even atheists dont seem to have a problem hording their money.

nate

Conservative vs. Liberal

but if state and church were truly seperate, what argument could be held for the law of killing someone. The basis and origin of that law is religion "thou shall not kill". Obviously that law would never be removed, but the point is that you can never truly seperate state and religion.

Its just something i thought of right now, i dont know if the above makes sense since I practice a religion, and so for me I see it as not only a law but a sin...

Conservative vs. Liberal

the basis for that law/commandment is based on the same thing. they both have a higher power controlling the masses. God or Government. so the basis is simple, "Cause i said so".

either way, its the masses being controlled by someone.

nate

Conservative vs. Liberal

So you're saying that if Religion didn't say that you shouldn't kill people, it would be alright?

No.. Obviously that law is not made because of religion, it's made for the simple reason that human life should be protected, not motivated by religion. And, the masses are supposed to control the government and not the other way around.

Conservative vs. Liberal

i was careful in saying that its origins came from that. and my point is that religion is entrenched in government, or at least, my question is that is religion too entrenched that it would be next to impossible (cause nothing is impossible :P) to truly seperate state adn religion?

Conservative vs. Liberal

Can a politician really ignore their religious values/morality to follow what they see as the letter of the law?  Why are we talking about this, anyway?

Conservative vs. Liberal

People should be free to practice religion unless it breaks existing laws, (such as murder) and ONLY because of those laws.

At the same time, it should not interfere with politics. An official should be elected on the basis of merits, not religion. Infact, those "debates" need to be moderated to a greater degree. There should be a fact checker and the rules should outlaw religious or racial predjudice.

And to Seth: A politician cannot, but his/her colleagues must stop them from doing anything predjudiced. The decisions should not be made by one person. Also: we are discussing this because it is interesting.

OBAMA WON!!

Ohio decided the election, since Obama had enough electoral votes to gain a decisive victory from Ohio. Even if McCain won over every single other state still contested, Obama would win.
