Finally, I have a chance to sit down and write a comment. First thing, don't worry about the spacing -- that is a bug on my end and it will be fixed soon.
The first impression I get when reading your articles is that you didn't spend a whole lot of time working on them. That is not meant to be offensive, so please don't take it that way. But, it's evident in the writing (that, and how many you've posted ;-)); you know how the quality of writing changes when you do a PM versus a forum post, or a game? Articles need to be top quality writing, since this is what newbies will be reading. They need a good impression of the site.
Also consider that an article is worth 50 points -- 1/2 of a featured game. I don't know if solostrike posted his article on the ADV Editor, but that is right on target. Well written, easy to follow, and conclusive.
Now, on to this article in particular. I like how you've addressed some key points:
- HOW to send a PM
- what PM is
- Good vs Bad
However, all except the first one (how to) aren't conclusive enough.
Another point, newbies really aren't going to know the members yet, so yo uwant to avoid making them feel like they're not part of the club. When you mention all these other guys names, it kinda makes it feel a bit exlusive. You want to be writing to the newbie, in a welcoming kinda way.
here are some additional points to get across:
- what you can, and when to use them for (still not sure by reading the article)
- forums vs PMs (when to carry it as a PM, when to use forum)
- what do you do if someone is bothering you (Answer: ask to stop, ignore, tell admin)
- if an "innapropriate" PM is found (spam, soliciting name.password, etc), what to do
- PM Ettiqute (you've started that with good vs bad, but you should expand on that)
- why you get PMs from cysid, and who is cysid
- how to disable PM, why you would want to disable
etc. Don't know if that's helpful, but I hope you get the idea. I think it's a great start, but it definitely needs some work.
