So I don't own a single thing I make on here?  So when I wrote Mattias, I can't take credit because its not mine??? Is that what your all telling me?

this has been discussed before many a time. lol even initiated by me once i think. from what i understand is, yes, you take credit for making the game. its yours. however, alex, if he so chooses, can do with it what he likes. something to that effect. however, remember, that alex is a good guy... as far as we know lol.

therefore, i suggest doing what i have done. make copies of your own games on paper, off the computer, and that way it stays yours regardless.

nate good luck.

ps. regardless, i would like to see a new game from you soon lol

You wanan chcek out my new one? (by means of co-author).

I'm a little worried though, what if one does really well and because its Alex's he sells it and I make nothing. y'see, its kinda like, well really annoying.  I know alex is a good guy but its my work.  He can't take any credit for it!

i agree. it is worrying. however, for me i realize that as an author outside of MAG i am not going to put my best work on here. as i said back in the day, my first game The Family, was written on paper and totally has a different story line than what is on here. its a lot better. ive always had better luck with paper and pencil. straight stories have always been easier for me. but, please dont let your fears keep you from making solid games for here. as for your new one? id be interested, but since im kinda sick and on meds, its probably not the best time for me to look at it. remind me in a week or two if its not published yet. then i will look at it.

This game is gonna be 3X better (probably longer then Mattias) then mattias.  It won't be done in a couple of weeks.  I've only written 74 pages.

Just don't make it looked so rushed like you did.

Do you find these terms intimidating? What terms would you need to "put your best work on here"?

Our goals our to protect ourselves, but also set ourselves up so that we may one day sell access to the content on the site through a non-WWW venue. That is an unlikely scenario anyway, but I don't want to preclude ourselves from doing that.

It is the sentance that worries me the most.

DISCLAIMER

What was meant by that sentance is things like the Cysid graphics, etc. However if you read further ... .

You further agree to grant to HALOGEN STUDIOS a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license, with the right to sublicense, to reproduce, transmit, distribute, create any derivative works of, publicly use or display any materials or other information (including, but not limited to, ideas, concepts or techniques for new or improved services and products) you publish to the Web site by any means or by any media now known or hereafter developed

But you're right, it's not very clear in that regard. You own the copyright of any material you post on this site. By posting it on this site, you are saying we can do whatever we want with it. For example, if we decide to print a book of stories on the site, we would not have to pay you any royaltees or even ask if we could publish it.

However, since you are the owner, if you decide to publish your story in a book, you do not need to ask us any permission or give any royalty.

Make sense?

Yeah, I wish I had read this BEFORE I had published mattias, lol.

It's a fair tradeoff if you'd ask me. You get to use this fairly advanced software to make interacive storygames for free, and we ask is for a right to share your works to promote (or whatever) the site ...

But you don't plan on selling them?

DISCLAIMER

The only ones that can actually be printed on paper are Classic games. The best one of those is Magus, but even then it's a far cry from something like Lone Wolf (which is now freely avaiable online, anyway). As for the other ADV games, who would pay to play these and how could we package them? We can't.

The only scenario I can see is offering MAG as a pay-for service through cell phones or providing an offline playable stories for PDAs and the like. That wouldn't really be selling your storygame, but just charging for access to the site via a different medium.

We should b able to play our own games free tho, lol.

DISCLAIMER

It wouldn't make sense to charge for access to the website -- we can serve ads up on the site. But for cell phone or other mediums, we can't serve ads on that, so in order to distrubte content, we might need to consider it.

But remember, you guys come first. What would the site be without authors? So it would be pretty stupid for us to come up with policies that involve screwing the authors, now wouldn't it ;-)

Visitors who come to the site only to consume (not contribute) content should have to pay one way or another, most likely though with their eyes (via ads).

I have been enlightened by the disclaimer.  Tell me more about it.

Mabey a few ads on the site would be okay, like one on the right side and one one the bottom.  Keep it away from the left (.net navagation) and above (terrible terrible location).
Keep them away from the games.

Take a look at CYS. http://cys.myadventuregame.com/

See the Ad in the upper-right corner? That's where the ad will be and what it will look like -- subtle and text-based.

I anticipate that ad in the corner will bring $10-20/month, which is a pretty small amount. But, I want to take the revenue and put it right back into contests.
