Organizing your game

Hello,

I am new here, and I am just wondering what are some tips on good ways to organize the different paths that you can take on a game. I am making a game, and I want to plan it all out before I right it. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

IT depends how big or complicated you want to get. Gee, it'd be nice if there was an article I could point you to (hint, hint), but here's a few tips:

  • THINK TOP-DOWN - start with a single senttence that descries your story (beginning and end(s)) . then expand it to a small outline with Beginning (where u introduce/build characters in the story), Midde (where the stuff happens), and End. Then expand the outline into individual pages and think of how they will link to eachter. Once u have a good outline, then go ahead and start
  • CHAPTERS - They are only avaiable inthe Advanced Editor, so if you're using that, then make sure to use them to your advantage. Oranize logica "places" or "events" with chapters. But, if your using Classic editor, don't go to Advanced just for this
  • INCOMPLETE MARKER - I use an asterisk (*) at the beginning of each page title to let me know that it's just a paceholder. That way it's easy to see what needs to be filled in and what is just a placeholder page

If u share more details about what u want to do, i'm sure others will be able to help u organize the storygame.

Thanks for responding. I have checked over all of the articles, and I understand how to make a game. I know my story overall, but I don't want to make a game in a very linear fashion, with one link going on and another dieing. I would like to be able to make a game with many endings, some better than others. I can do this, but I am wondering how I would get that all down on paper in an organized fashion, so I can have it all planned out then write it on the game. If you need the specifics of what I am doing, just ask.

Thanks.

Hey,

Thanks for the compliment, you seem really cool too. I havent played Mattias yet, but I have played JBCS, and I have gotten to the 8th quest. The game seems extremely cool, and now I'm really interested in how you made the game so in depth like that. Great game. I'm going to play Mattias The One Knight next, right when I beat JBCS.

Thanks,

ok well his might come as a wee bit as a shock to you.I follow three stages in writing.

1. Get the basic idea/find inspiration.
2. Divide the game into basic chapters (using the adv editor)
3. Write.

Its really simple, concept - organization - write.

Hey Alex, Great Tip.   Hello there umm... *haven't checked the name yet*;  I have a feeling your first game is gonna be a good one.  You can always make a quiz though.
