MyAdventureGame.com has been moved to a bigger, better server. Hopefully this move has not caused any problems. Let me know if you guys run into any problems.

SWEET.

There's problems.  Next is the NET update right?

New Server

There are *always* problems with a Server move :-)

But this isn't a project for the website, just a result of me needing to move the server that this site is hosted on.

.NET will come after/during the Branding change. Although after playing these games you guys (well, not you Havaco :-P) made, I'm tempted to add some advanced features ...

Yes, Yes, Yes.  That is an excellent idea.  Well, actually, the .Net upgrade would be best so that you can make more types of upgrades.

?ADVANCED FEATURES? Now, lets see, what could these be Alexp?  Will thay include the letter D, maybe P? lol, I want these advanced features, whoopee!

New Server

I have no idea what these are to be honest :-)

The biggest things I want to add (off the top of my head, see FWW for full list):
#1 - Scripting
#2 - MyStats / ItemClasses
#3 - Timers

#3 kicks butt!

.net first.  Before it becomes harder to make the change.

New Server

harder to make the change?

New Server

Well, he has to change more things and has a higher chance of complications.  Also, more games and posts.

New Server

ahh, he has to change eacch thing?

It is possible to have a Mixed site (part ASP, part .NET), and that's what I will do, while I transition modules to .NET. But, the reason I will probably bundle it with the Branding/Identity change is b/c that change will involve changing just about every page, too. So, as long as I'm changing everything, may as well do what I can in .NET.

New Server

uhh, I think I understand. You plan on havign a mixed .net/asp site, because it would take A LONG TIME to do the whole thing. Uhh, so you will start working in .net.  Did I get that?

New Server

So what does the branding thingy do?

New Server

OK: NOW I'M LOST.

New Server

Alex, just leave a new thread about what you are going to do.

New Server

Yeah thats a good idea.

New Server

Exactly. But you guys probably won't be able to tell the difference between the two. The main difference you will see is in the addressbar: instead of every page ending in ".asp" it will end in ".aspx".

But this allows me to add in all sorts of other features much easier.

New Server

Wel lthats a difference, and the pictures thing.

New Server

So how does this take time?  I see it as putting in an x into each main bar and editing the page makers.

New Server

Its kinda like switching programs I figure. It changes it subtly but it uses a whole new interface.

New Server

LOL -- that's what a lot of clients say. "Why do I need to pay $$$ to add a .NET".

There pretty different platforms. Kinda like comparing a French Book and an English Movie.

New Server

I have to alot in school (fr-Eng).  I'm doing grade 12 french.  God its hard.  But I'l be done soon. My ad works with .NET Suite, so I know a litlle more about it then most "kids", Do you use the beta version?

New Server

That's what I work with for professional (i.e. paid) projects. I have been working with "2.0 Beta" for many months and it has recently been officially released. And that's another motivation for me to switch the site to .NET -- to get some more experience in the "2.0" version of .NET.

New Server

Alex, I am confused now.  Can you tell me exactly what it going on below this.

New Server

Going on with .... ? The new server?

New Server

.NET?

New Server

everything you talked about.

New Server

thats pretty broad.

New Server

only .net then.

New Server

Well, he said it would bne a good way to test out the new 2.0 .net, feature for his programming, then I said are the help files fixed?  Because they were really bad on the beta, and then solo mis-interpreted and we squabbled.

New Server

OK.  I get it.  Windows dosen't have any help files at all.  I found that out reading a manual made by another company for the windows XP.  It kept me entertained for 2 hours.

New Server

wow, what a nerd - LOL jk.

New Server

Windows has a huge library of helpfiles built in.

Go to the start menu and look for the HELP link. If it's not there, go Start, Run, and type in HelpCtr, ten press enter.

New Server

Wow, What a nerd. LOLOLOLOLOL - I'm just, joiking, just joking.

Your mouse dosen't work and neither does the keyboard.  What do you do?  Restart it - Nope that don't work.  Replug it in, still no.  Where is the help?  It is out of your reach.

New Server

Uhh, so is everything else.  You phone Microsoft, DUH.

New Server

You can't pay your phone bill.

New Server

Fine go to a friends house or go to a payphone.

New Server

HEY WAITA SECOND! If you can't pay your phone bill you couldn't afford electronics for the comp anyway, so whats the point.

New Server

Well, they need a manual in book version.

New Server

imagine how long it would be though...

New Server

Well, if they used missing manuals' (the company) manuals they would be around 600 pages.

New Server

exactly, now think about costs.

New Server

OK -- one thing I want to do is re-write this site in .NET. Currently the site is written in ASP. There are two advantages to this: (1) I will sharpen up my .NET skills, (2) it will be even easier to develop new features.

However, I cannot do this rewrite all at once. So, as I make changes to modules (like, adding a bunch of more features to the AdvEditor), I will consider rewriting the module in .NET.

So, this will be more of a slow change, I suppose. Make sense?

I new I was missing something.  Darned Second paragraphs!
