Dust off a seat and discuss a good book here...you do read, right?

I'm reading it now. I'm particularly expecting tsmpaul and maybe madglee to have read it before. Because of 1) Their age and for tsmpaul because he's a sci-fi fan. Anybody read this?

About gifted children who have to fight in the adult army, and about mind games and about how the person remains the same no matter how mature they are, it's interesting. I've only read two chapters so far so I don't really know, but I've read the part at the start and it has a bit about the way children see the world, and most of it isn't crap made up by adults about how they don't see the road when they try to get their basketball, it's actually really good.

Actually, I've never read it, that I can remember. The strange thing about how many books I've read is that I don't retain them all. I read your summary, though, and I don't recall anything like that. I just finished reading "Choke," which is absolutely hilarious. I don't read a lot of sci-fi, though the Foundation books by Asimov rock.

Don't know why I said you, I just thought you would have read it. It seems to be a fairly basic book but at the same time it includes all this stuff about how their minds work. It's kinda hard to explain, but I'm about halfway through (I'm trying to keep the book going for as long as possible) at the moment and it is pretty good.

What age would you say it's geared for? Not that it matters, much, I love the Harry Potter books. Course, I tried to read my favorites from when I was like 7, they were these Xanth novels by Piers Anthony, and they're just too simplistic. What you're saying, though, sounds like some cerebral shit. I'm going to check it out when I have a chance. Hmm, somehow this all sounds insulting as though I'm asking if you're reading little kid books, but that is not the case so I'm going to post this response anyway. I'm just exhausted writing these fucking powerpoints for class.

It makes you think, although not that much. Don't overestimate it, but it is a good read, and it's interesting what the author says at the start (if you have the one published in '91 rather than '81). There's stuff that makes you think a lot more than this, but its a good read. Fairly simple too.

I just finished it. It's one of the best books I think I've ever read. I recommend it to everyone. The first few chapters may seem childish, but it is really interesting what happens.
