Rome...if you want to...

i was just wondering if anyone has read "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire" Edward Gibbons i believe. i saw a referfence to it on jeopardy and thought it sounded interesting. wasnt sure if it was a historical document though or more fictionalized telling of Rome.

Oh, I've read parts of it.  (It's very long.)

It is very much an historical document.  It's mostly citations from Roman documents with Gibbon's comments.

My dad has "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich." Does that count? (If you're a history nerd, this statement becomes a joke. Ah, still don't know? Well, the Roman Empire and Nazi Germany were the Second and Third Reich...to Hitler anyway. Yeah, I know. I listen in History class to attentively.)

hmm i'm currently watching the tv series Rome, which my teacher recommended to me. based on what ive read on wikipedia, the series is accurate in many of the events that occur, minus the tv dramatics that were added :P

I wish they'd make a lot more Roman movies nowadays. Oh the good times with the classic Roman movies of the 60's or whenever. 70's? 80's? By the way, I personally have an idea of making a movie about Pontius Pilate and his perspective of the trial of Jesus of Nazareth.

Thanks, fleshy! I plan to be a moviemaker when I retire from Game Design, and this'll be one my first few movies.
I was actually inspired by The Passion of the Christ, which despite all the critical whatever, was a pretty good movie. Most parts were Orthodox enough that I didn't have to say "Ugh, friggin Liberals." lol, No offense to any Protestants, Catholics, etc. anywhere...heretics! XP Anyway, [The Passion of the Christ] showed Pilate remarkably realistically. You could see how torn he was between political stature and the subtle truth. (Man, I think I'll call the story The Subtle Truth.) Plus, after I saw another Italian - ugh - movie in a similar setting, they portrayed Pilate in a much too objective and tyrannical and godless manner. I want to recreate the feeling of seeing how mortal and uncertain Pilate was.

Did you ever see that South Park where every time someone mentions "Come Sail Away" Cartman has to sing the whole song before he can do anything else?

Yeah, my problem is that sometimes I only know like, five words of the song, so I just keep repeating them over and over and over

Is 'rome' really anyone's favorite song?
