Shittiest "Webcomic" Idea ever.

I have an idea for a thingy.

You see, not only does drawing take hours and effort, but no matter how much of those two factors I put into it, it always looks rather shit. Now, I've read enough webcomics to know that you can solve this problem by covering the page in WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDS, but that's fucking despicable. That's like a book club meeting pretending to be a movie.

But what if, maybe, just maybe, the words and the pictures were entirely separate things connected only by context and story?

What if, hypothetically, I just drew a shitty picture, and then wrote a helluva lot of text underneath it that tells the story connected to that scene in the picture? Would this be permissable on any free webcomic-publishing thing? Would this be considered tolerable by anyone of considerable taste? Would I be able to sell a T-Shirt but still avoid getting my (user)name on the Bad Webcomics wiki?

Isn't that basically just a story with pictures, then?

Like Turbo, I  think it's just an illustrated story. But, I remeber one good novel and half of the book was just sequences of illustrations. The book is titled, The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick.

So, I would like to see how it turns out.

Yes. Exactly like that. Except the word pages outnumber the picture pages. And the pictures aren't very good. And also there's violence. And maybe it will sell T-Shirts.

My dad just got a print thingy and I want to have a reason to make one, badly.

What you're describing sounds like webfiction, and it's very difficult to get people to read that. Having illustrations may help a little, but not much, I imagine. Good luck with it, though.

Just curious, who you're quoting "Webcomic" from. That's what those quotation marks mean, after all.

If you meant 'Webcomic', then yes, that's far more appropriate for the idea, as it's an unusual usage of the word Webcomic in this context.

'Webcomic'

'Webcomic' just needed two apostrophes to show how sketchily/technically it qualifies as a webcomic. It's really webfiction, like Axiom said, but there'll be pictures. If I submit it to a publishing format like Comicfury or some other place, it'll be on the front page every time I update it, so I'd rather put it up on something like that rather than a blog or a webfic-dedicated website, because everybody reads webcomics and practically no one reads webfiction. That's just the ecosystem, I guess.
