A place to sit back, hang out, and make monkey noises about anything you'd like.

Yeah it sucked.

Felt like they took two movie ideas and smooshed them together to make a complete mess of movie. Then they ripped off some ideas from that “Don’t Breathe” horror movie, complete with another evil blind dude.

I’d complain about how much this reboot sucked compared to the original movie, but then, I never was really into the series anyway. (Or a lot of that silly ghost J-Horror of haunted cell phones, videotapes, internet sites, coffee makers, etc. for that matter)

Did they try to use social media elements in a embarrassingly horrifying attempt to reach a modern audience? Many horror movies are starting to do that nowadays...

I cringe, but I don't think in a way that the directors intended.

The first half of the movie seemed like it was heading that way with the whole social media bit, but even that would have been tolerable if they just picked that and stuck with it.

The first half of the movie has Sheldon’s roommate from Big Bang theory buy an old VCR which of course has the tape inside when he’s messing about with it.

He watches it and then it jumps to a couple and their boring relationship.

Later she’s trying to get ahold of her boyfriend and then finds out that Dr. Hoffsteader is running experiments on trying to prove that the soul exists for his next book or thesis paper (or whatever) by making people watch ghost girl tape. Nobody will die as long as he keeps finding new idiots signing up for the experiment and the last person to have watched can just make a copy and the cycle just continues.

In an effort to save her boyfriend, the girlfriend watches the tape, but she’s experiencing the weird shit a lot quicker than everyone else and she’s getting visions that nobody else has had before.

That concept was actually somewhat okay, but then it goes into the second half which as I said, felt like a whole different movie.

They basically abandon ALL of the experiment shit, and the couple goes to some small town to find out where the ghost girl originally came from and where she was buried, etc. They run into a blind guy who turns out to be the ex-priest of the small town.

He raped some choir girl years ago, kept her captive and ghost girl was his daughter. He blinded himself so she couldn’t kill him though.

Anyway, after a re-enactment of “Don’t Breathe”, the girlfriend frees the ghost girl proper and with her ghostly powers she manages to get her father to see her in his mind, and kills him instantly.

Then it shows the boyfriend messing around on his computer and he discovers a bunch of unread messages from Dr. Hoffsteader, (Who got killed earlier when he discovered some now information and was trying to get to them) while he’s doing that, the girlfriend is undergoing some transformation in the shower.

To sum up, the boyfriend clicks the wrong link and spams the Ring video to everyone on his contacts list and can’t stop it, meanwhile the girlfriend is reborn as ghost girl.

There. Now nobody has to waste their time watching it.

Thanks for the summary! I now don't feel as bad about turning down the invitations I received from family and peers to see this at the theater.

It does sound a bit interesting, though.

Would this be a smart rental for a ironic watch?

I guess it's okay to watch it for free or cheap, but I got more bored with the movie rather than finding anything outright terrible with it. Which is probably worse since it just didn't stand out in any meaningful way.

For me, horrible movies are genuinely more entertaining than the ones that can just be deemed "meh". But I think I'll watch this one if it ever is added to Netflix or something.

It was about as scary as "Unfriended".

Rings

Hell, Unfriended sort of surprised me in that I didn't mind that one.

It helped that everyone was pretty annoying so seeing them get killed was enjoyable.

Rings

I will never forget Unfriended. xD

I'm not really into the whole "Ghost in the Machine" Genre.

Rings

It's funny, too, since I thought there was a general consensus in Japanese folklore that Yokai and other traditional ghosts were "Allergic" to electrical appliances. Or does that only apply to certain ones?

Rings

You can say that again.

"Why does she look like she's sucking off an invisible dick in the thumbnail?"

Guess someone in the comments section was thinking the same thing I was when I clicked the link.

I watched it the day it came out, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It wasn't that bad though, as I managed to watch the whole thing without falling asleep.

The  horror of the original came from the investigation and not knowing all the rules. Mainstream horror is dead. Go watch The Alchemist's Cookbook, it's free and insane.

You know, I've actually picked myself up off the ground the way that chick crawls around in the posters and trailers more times than I'd like to admit... I'm sure it's uncanny-valley enough to some people that she'd be scary without the buildup to a lot of basic moviegoers, but when the only things you can think of right off the bat when you're seeing the sole antagonist of a horror movie are "Y'know, I think I can actually twist my leg that way." and "Any girl who can bend like that is perfectly welcome to crawl out of my TV whenever she wants!" then they'd damn sure better get the atmosphere right.

Rings

The whole premise of "you watch it and you die" is just...urgh. I'm not going to waste my time watching it - just seeing the trailer gives me enough information to come to the conclusion that it's a laughable excuse for horror.

A little girl in 1954 died after homicidal maniac chopped her up with a chainsaw and raped her. He then dragged her into a forest and buried her alive.

Now that you have heard this story, you must copy message or else this little girl will come to you in the middle of the night and whisper “Join me, my love" before ripping your tongue and eyes out while wailing horribly into your ears.

Pffft... stories like that are so lame...

He chopped her up and then raped the pieces?

Such a sad story.

Rings

He even buried her alive after chopping her into pieces. What a fucking monster.

Rings

Well, it did say "And",  not "Then."

Rings

I just presumed that the rape proceeded after all of the chopping, but those two things could've happened concurrently. She was still alive while being buried after all.

Rings

So she was either cut into bits and the living pieces were raped or she was raped then cut to pieces...

Either way still murder and rape.

God, I fucking loved that thread...

Why are all the threads these days so boring and lacking conflict?

Pfft, fuck no.

But since I haven't, I'm guessing they didn't last long.

Thread blew up for like 5 hours before getting nuked.

I am glad to have seen this story return as well, Tim.

The bus has truly come back.

Oh, found the final "evolution" of that message from that thread.

A little bubble girl infected with Ebola by the name of Roni back in 1645 B.C. died of leukemia after a sixteen year old disabled homicidal maniac chopped her up with a chainsaw and raped her. He then ate some popcorn and dragged her body behind his wheelchair into a burning volcano and buried her alive.

Now that you have heard this story, you must respond to this message while watching Ghostbusters, listening to George Gershwin and drawing dick pictures or else this little bubble girl will come to you in the middle of the night and whisper “Join me, my love and we will know the pleasures of shoving mason jars up people’s asses.” before obliterating you with 50 rocket launchers and ripping your tongue and eyes out while wailing horribly that you’re a terribly rude and disgusting asshole and also how you’re a horrible speller into your ears.

I honestly remember when I was in primary school and email was barely a thing, and we were like 8 or something and the whole class got given school email addresses and it was crazy because we didn't have any other way to contact each other before that so it was like what?? I can talk to my friends when we're not actually physically with each other?? Anyway so someone got started with a chain mail thing and because we were all so young some bitches got really scared, like literally scared for their lives and told their parents about what was happening..
The main story was about this girl who 'used to go to our school' and there were two older girls who were really mean and bullied her or whatever. Then one day there's a lockdown practice and everyone is inside the classrooms, but the girls sneak outside. The older girls open the thing to the sewer, that big round heavy thing on the streets, and push the little girl inside. She falls down along the side and gets scraped along the walls and all her skin comes off. Eventually she reaches the bottom and the force breaks both her legs. The older girls freak out and just put the manhole cover back over, and the little girl is stuck in the dark for two weeks, and she starves to death. Eventually the police find her, and they talk to all the students to try and find out who killed her. Basically the older girls are killed by the ghost of the dead girl or something when they go into the shower or bath?? Anyway that was the scariest possible thing when you're like really young so everyone was forwarding it around and the teachers eventually shut down the whole email thing and we didn't get to use computers any more.

Oh. That sucks.

Sorry for your loss of email.
