Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

read it here

This is a story with some technical and pacing issues, but the author does have a talent for writing and the parts they got right, they did very well. It's been up about ten days and slipped off the storygames page with only a couple of reviews.

Considering how awful the stuff posted since then have been, I thought this one deserved getting a little more attention drawn to it. There's some really imaginative imagery and worldbuilding bits in there, and so my hope is they take any criticism and feedback they get from the members here to heart and come out with something really polished and amazing someday.

I intended to read this one out but never got around to it. Thanks for the reminder - will check it out now.

EDIT: After reading the story, I'd like to add my own endorsement to mizal's. The story has flaws, but compared to much of the recent drivel, this was very refreshing. And the writer shows promise. If you haven't given this story a look yet, I recommend it.

I always get nervous when I read, "Compared to the recent stuff..." because some of the "recent stuff" is always really, really bad.

"Hey, it's a real smelly turd, but it's not as big and smelly as that one over there!"

I'm not saying this particular story is bad, I just really cringe when I read that line...

My point was more that it was unfair it got pushed off the main page by a landslide of hot garbage. :P

Understood, that is sad when that happens. Then again, I'm sad when one of my stories get pushed off the front page no matter what kind of stories appear... :)

It's been really interesting watching my own little story there. New ones keep popping up and getting removed, that thing might sit there forever at this rate. :P It's already had someone give it a 1, someone give it an 8, and has a stupidly high rating for how tiny it is.

It's all very fascinating hmm maybe I've found my calling in short, low effort stories that are guaranteed to look AMAZING as long as I strategically place in the midst of other short, low effort stories...

Now you're thinking -- wait for a rash of low-quality work getting published, maybe after a holiday or spike in visits. When the flow stops, publish your gem, get high ratings, ????, profit!

Rash? You mean I can expect this flood of shitty previews, demos, part 1's, trolls and similar turds to finish eventually? This is tremendous news.

Well, based on recent history, it does seem to come in waves, then there's a break and a week or three will pass with almost nothing new... but then something gets in the air and they start appearing again...

"... stupidly high rating for how tiny it is."

I feel a 5/8 is an appropriate rating for Deepwoods Flight. You can still have an interesting story and nice writing in a short work. The purpose is to entertain, and a five minute quick read can serve that purpose perfectly well. Your story packs a quick paced punch, has good grammar and commendable imagery. There are no instant deaths and enough branching that you can have fun checking out multiple paths. That sounds better than average to me.

From what I can recall reading, Deepwoods Flight is probably the best story on the site that has a 3/8 length or less and does not use scripting or variables.

So quit knocking your story :)
