Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

Is linearity really the problem...or is it just..

The way the game turns out to be. With enough interactive, and not so many (if none)guess parts are not made, and a lot of scenes in the game are made, I think that it can be linear.I'm talking about text games on this site by the way. I mean after all, probably 90% of console and pc games are linear, especially FPS games, wonder why, lol. However that is not to say that non-linear ever hurts. What are your opinions. Come on JJJ, I know you have a argument prepared for me...let it out.

Three simple simple things.

1. This is "choose your own adventure" games.  A linear game should not be published on this site.
2. Guess parts are good for silly games that you dont care about (Kill the Vill-ains)
3. PC games make up for linearity with graphics and controls.

CHOICES, ALWAYS GOOD. NO CHOICES, ALWAYS BAD.

Oh, I should add as well. I didn't mean like one choice at a time. yeah, of course there will be more than one choice. Sorry, what I meant was, having a certain goal to reach. For instance the main goal you'll reach in paper luigi is getting all 7 stars and beating bowser for the star rod, doesn't mean I can't or won't have things to do in between this goal (JJJ I need some help with making side quests that matter...without the need of RPG you know).

No problem, PM me.  I have a great idea.

Linearity means line like or no choices.  So, you mean, like one palce with a goal to get to another place.  Thats OK but its better to add some worst endings as well.

He's talking about games that aren't like Runescape or other games where you do what you want.

I'd like to see a game world thought out and drawn before any games are made with it.  Then somebody makes the world transversable completly by walkable paths (or teleports) without a plot and have that be a design for a game.  It would make a cool world.  In fact, some people might just make a series.

Yah, would love to see a MAG World but not called MAG World.  Make it unique.  It's like Neopets have Neopia which is odd why I mention it.

Interactivity is the right word, not Linearity.

A good story will be a good story no matter what, but JJJ is right -- this is a CYOA-based site, so having interactivity is important.

Your stories (the Dark Tales), for examples, have very few choices, but I enjoyed them a lot. In fact, I'm very saddened that you deleted them -- those were a great asset to the site. I think if you added some trivial interactivity (like, a waitress asked what to order, and you gave a choice), they would have received better feedback from others.

I think this may be biased, but look at THE PROPOSAL -- the purpose of that is to tell a real story, and b/c of that, there can be only one ending. If you go through, all the interactivity in the storygame is entirely trivial. But (I think), it still makes it feel like you have a choice.

I've looked through it and yes I do kindof think it could be biased.  I mean, do you want to rate the top dogs game a 3?  (Not that it deserves a three or anything, mr. Alex.) But he's right, its the same thing with Mattias the one knight.  Your trying to reach ONE goal, to become king and kick Goreks ass but there are batrillions of choiceas, and its not Linear because there are about seven endings....

That is what I am talking about. The problem is though, I suck at making multiple endings, I don't know how far to pace the endings apart. If you put them to close together there is no reason to play the game again for endings, just read one ending, click back and chose another ending...this is kind of hard to explain, I don't mean on one page it say's "ending 1, ending 2 ect." I mean certain links go to certain endings, but it's not good to have two links on the same page that go to an ending, but I don't think the endings should be spaced out so much as well. It's hard to explain, maybe JJJ can help make more sence out of it.

To rephrase that:

You have sixty pages.

He doesn't think you should put an ending on 58 and 53. because there is no point in going back for more endings.  On the same note he doesn't think that its that fun if they are too far apart either.
