Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

Best Storygame of the Year

I've been thinking about a BEST GAME OF THE YEAR contest. I suppose any story within the perameters would be applicable.

Best Storygame of the Year

But what WOULD those perameters be?

Not my call. Ide like to see some advanced story games using alot of variables. Or quite the opposite, Ide realy like to see a sprawling game with loads of choices and variables though.

that made no sense...Or quite the opposite, a basic story game. Still I'de like to see...*

I'm not good when it comes to variables and the basic editor is....BAD.

What about just any game? Because if it was just Advanced Editor with variables then Endmaster's works would be cast out but if it was only the Basic Editor then great works like Mommy would be out also.

Yes, I suppose...

Thats kinda what I wanted, but I feel now there should be some kind of guideline. Perhaps the story would need to be nominated? then voted on by a panel of judges.

We could use the council. Though using authors might be another idea (Endmaster, JJJ, etc)

Maybe do judges + the story's average vote so other people can have input too.

JJJ's voting system from the last contest was pretty solid.

Yeah, it was:

Contest Theme: Swords and Sorcery / High Fantasy
Deadline: August 1st

Stories are NOT automatically entered! You should post in this thread with your intent to write a story for the contest. If you post your intent in the next week and then come through and actually release something, there will be a 15 EXP point reward. You don't have to post your intent, you can just publish a story and then afterwards tell us that you're entering but you won't get the 15 point reward.

On August 1st, each person who has entered the contest (and anyone who hasn't, but who wants to vote) will read ALL of the stories. No one is allowed to vote on just a few. You have to vote on ALL or NONE of the stories. If you enter a story, you really should participate in voting. The reason you can't vote on just a few is that if you're a person who leaves exceptionally high or low ratings, the stories you vote on will be affected either negatively or positively with respect to the other stories.

Voting will occur by sending your votes to me. You will send your opinion of MY story to a delegate (we'll choose who closer to August) so that it's anonymous still, and you don't feel intimidated to rate how you feel about my story. That person will send me the votes for my story and I'll tally an average. I think we'll probably just give a mark out of 10 for each story. Infinite story rates on three categories (Creativity, Enjoyment and Technical Aspects) but in my opinion, only enjoyment matters. If a story is more creative and better written, you'll enjoy it more and that will reflect in your mark. You will also be expected to leave approximately a paragraph in comments for the author, this can be left on the comments section or messaged with your rating if you'd like it to be anonymous.

Afterwards, we'll all vote on the person who left the best comments (if you submit your comments anonymously, you forfeit the chance to win this vote) and the winner will receive a prize.

REWARDS

Contest Winner: 200 EXP points and hopefully the contest trophy.
Contest Second Place: 50 EXP points
Contest Third Place: 15 EXP Points
All Contest Entrances that Confirm Their Participation in the next week: 15 EXP points
Best Commenter: 50 EXP points

Just ignore the deadline and categoroy, and we have our rules.

Would the story need to be nominated as I suggested before?

Best Storygame of the Year

I think that any story with a rating of 7 or higher should be nominated.

Best Storygame of the Year

A rating of 7 is three and a half starts, which unless you're looking in Sci-fi or Fantasy, most categories only have like 1-5 stories with that high a rating. While its good to try and set the bar high, that's just too high.

Stars, not starts lol.

Best Storygame of the Year

Okay, maybe 5 or 6 then but definitely no lower than a 5.

Best Storygame of the Year

Yeah. Even 6 may be better.

Best Storygame of the Year

Oh yeah, if we end up nominating stories, I don't think featured stories should be nominated because they're an almost automatic win.

Best Storygame of the Year

If it's a best storygame of the year competition then why would we discard a great game?

Best Storygame of the Year

I just think it's a clear disadvantage to those whose stories aren't nominated.

Best Storygame of the Year

It wouldn't truly be a best game of the year competition then though.

Best Storygame of the Year

Then maybe we could have a separate contest for the featured stories.

Best Storygame of the Year

If a story gets nominated this year, then it should be nominated. Because its good. Punishing the story for being good would be ridiculouse.

Best Storygame of the Year

But most of the stories that are featured were not released in 2012 and therefore could not win a "Best Game of the Year" award. They would qualify for a "Best Game of All Time" award. The starting point does not matter just when it is released for public use.

Best Storygame of the Year

Not related to what I'm saying. If a game is started and published THIS YEAR and is featured then it should still be aplicable. It sounded as though fergie was suggesting that if a game is featured it would not be allowed to win the contest.

Best Storygame of the Year

Ohh Ok, I didn't get that. Sorry.

Oh, I was thinking . . . okay, yeah, never mind what I said. I agree with what you're saying Ugi.
