Clerics and Clothing

This thread regards the "cleric" or "warrior priest" archetype in fiction, specifically one such person would wear. I'm needing a little inspiration, and I would greatly appreciate any help.

That depends on what you want them to lean towards. If the cleric is primarily healing their allies, then a light armor or cloth would suit them just fine. If you want them to have healing abilities but primarily wading into battle alongside their allies, then perhaps plate or mail armor for better protection. Hope this helps.

How would that armor look, though? I mean, they are a cleric, so they need something to distinguish them from the laity.

Presumably they would have the symbols of their faith somewhere on their armor and probably slightly more ornate.

Aren't clerics in plate mail just paladins?

Not precisely. Paladins are holy warriors. Clerics are just religious healers.

But to answer james, the plate armor could possibly be made from a different material. Brightness isn't a good thing to go for, as healers usually are the first thing your army would target. EndMaster is correct as well, there is usually a more ornate quality to the armor and it has some kind of symbol of faith as well.

I would go for standard-grade chain mail armor for mobile dispatchment, along with their religious symbol stitched into a white silk shirt in bright colors. That should have a traditional staff or a staff for a weapon. A la the crusaders, if you know what I mean. Or maybe a leather tunic with lots of little pockets for keeping supplies, something understated, over the armor, along with a  short sword.

I say just mess around with things from this.

Completely off topic, but now I have another reason to completely hate my mom's kittens. They just killed my bird.

Clerics should look highly religious, with a side of badass, because that's pretty much what they are. Big plated shoulders and robes with chainmail underneath are always a safe bet, as are crusader bucket-helms. Holy symbols should be a prominent design choice. Hell, the English/Roman crusader armors are the biggest possible guidelines to be following, aside from DnD.
