Category for Beginner/Test Stories

I've seen a lot of stories on this site that are WAY too short, or just plan silly.

One click --> You die --> The end --> please rate and leave a comment

Can't we just take all those stories and put them in their own category called "The Shredding Bin" or "The Testing Lab" or something? That way there's a difference between a "well thought out" action story and a "one click, you die" story. There's 2 ways I can see this working:

1) If the user chooses themselves which category the want the story to go in, (if they know that it's going to be a test or a troll story)

2) If we report the story and it forcibly goes in this category. Similar to how we move links in forums.

Without further ado, here's my Meme to support my thesis. Thanks for reading my idea.

Main problem is that if it's a troll-story, then they won't put in that category on purpose. Though I do like the idea of having a category for first-games/tests.

I personally think that a story that is, "one-click you die" (or similar) should just be deleted.

I agree, having a category for first-games/tests would be the most beneficial. That way people aren't thinking that the storygame they are about to play is the best on the site.

It's also good for the beginners too, since they can get feedback on their game. When they feel confident, they can move their game from the First-Games/Tests category to one of the official categories.

Hey man! I'm glad that you brought this up.

Alexp, March5th00, madglee and I have been corresponding about this very topic. Here's what we've decided to implement:

We will be slightly modifying the rating calculator so that story ratings are calculated a little bit differently. To avoid rating brigades and rating cheats, I won't go into the specifics but it should reflect reality a little better.

Storygames rated less than 5 will be hidden by default from the games lists viewable by entering categories. They won't be hidden from the new games list.

Like right now, you will be able to manually set your filter so that you see storygames of any rating or of ratings less than any number you choose.

The default will be 5 though, so that new members and guests don't see all of the garbage. In effect, we'll get the same effect without the mess of creating a new category.
