Items dropped, then reappearing on same page.

I asked in the advanced editor forum the following:
"Hey guys, hopefully this is simple, but I can't figure it out. If you have an item and it is "dropped," whether or not by the user or by changing it into something else, then you re-enter the room in which it first appeared, it is still there.
How do you prevent this? In other words, how do you make it that, once taken, it will never appear in the room again?"
From the response I received, I am going to assume this isn't possible, short of making another page, with another link, with restrictions if person has/not has item to remedy the problem.
I would like to propose that in the items options, there is a checkbox that would, by default, be checked, and which reads, "Appear once only." In this way, many problems could be remedied. IE:
If authors wanted their items dropped, but not to appear again on the original page, they could keep the box checked. Such coding would make for a much more realistic story, b/c who wants to drop something, run around, and find it again in the same spot! Granted, authors could make extra pages, but that seems to take effort away from creation of the story, which is all our goals here.
Here's an example: You walk into the living room and find a bunny. You pick the bunny up. Later, you drop the bunny. Much later, you enter the living room. There's the bunny! With the checkbox, once the bunny is picked up and dropped, it would no longer appear in the living room.
If there IS a way to do this and the response was wrong, I apologize for wasting everyone's time. If not, I think this would be great idea, depending on the coding time involved, as I understand how to get around it. Again, though, if it requires small coding time, it would allow authors to utilize less effort making pages around the coding engine.
