When making the variables, the list shouldn't auto-sort the variables alphabetically. It's tedious and annoying. Have the variables be listed depending on when the writer made them. It's easier to show which variables are more important than others, like Health and Magic over Experience or something.

OMG!!! so many versions of this, i wish alex would just allow us to move variables in the order we wanted, eg. back in the old adv editor, you could see pages in a list box, well the same thing should be for variables, i mean in a list, and there should be arrows to move up and down...

Yes, we can get to that many variables very easy in epical games and stories.

In DZD 3 I had to write the variables on all the pages one by one (well, they weren;t shown on all pages because I was too lazy) and it took about two hours just for that.

Well, you didn't have to.  You could have just choosen to show them as text.

Yeah, but I didn't want to. I don't know if you have played DZD 3 but the variables at the bottom just HAD to be like that. It just works. And I'm making a fairly short one at the moment, based on an almost true story, and I already have eight variables. DZD 3 has about 20 or 30-something.

It's not that there are too many variables, it'd just be nice. Like you could make it Alphabetical on your own time, but if you need to show a lot of variables that have different importances, then you should be able to put your most important variable first. Besides, it's easier to script.

For example, if HEALTH is really important, but you have a variable called ATTACK that isn't the most critical, then the Chronological variable list would have Health first and Attack later.

Comgratulations Anubis, you put into words what we couldn't be bothered to. By the way, while we're on the subject, what about the order the pictures are in? I don't see any sense there at all. What's going on?

Anyways, a way to move them to a spot, for example, if you want it between the first and second variable, you can call it's location 1.5, and when you save, it will change to 2 and bump everything else.  (If multiple are in, it'll queue those, and do the one's with the bigger numbers first, or else you could get your variables all messed up.

I saw 94 variables in one storygame. You guys are nuts =-)

I'll keep this on the list to consider. No dates are stored with vars right now, so even when/if this goes in, your existing storygames will have the alphabetical order.

Chronological wouldn't be as helpful to me as being able to put them in whatever order you wanted.    Sometimes I've already started a story when I get an idea that needs a new variable.

I've just been putting "Z" in front of the names of less important variables.

Yeah, about fifty people (exaggeration) including me have asked for some sort of variation on this suggestion, including ordering variables.
